Oh how I miss his voice and boisterous laugh! Joe Dawson and I met in 2009 and married in Nov of 2014. Most of these names sound so familiar to me through Joe's "radio memory hour" he'd share with me most mornings as we would enjoy our coffee & conversation before the work day would begin. I never dreamed I'd have my own personal DJ! And I can tell you, Joe could've returned to the air waves at any given time as 'Smokin' Joe Dawson' and you'd never know he left! He LOVED his years in radio!! Joe passed away on May 19th 2020 here in Alpharetta, GA. This big ole house is so empty without him. I've seen reports of him dying from Pneumonia, but that is not true. Although he spent 6 days in the hospital with Pneumonia in late April/early May, he beat that and was able to come home but due to other (Non-Covid19 related) health complications, had to return to the hospital a few days later. One of the hardest parts for both of us was the fact that I could not be by his side during his stay because of Cornavirus restrictions. I was granted special permission to visit with him after they did everything they could for him. I spent 2 hours at his bedside and I know he knew I was there. Thank you so much, Mr. Feaster for sharing this aircheck. At least I can still hear his voice any time I want to. Blessings to all, Elly Dawson.

1983 was in my opinion the real beginning of the 80s musically. Beware air check and it being in stereo is the cherry on top.
@EllisFeaster4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The second British Invasion, thanks to MTV , really ushered in the 80s sound, putting an end to the AC & Yacht Rock sound of the 70s, which we were hearing from 80-82. Much the same way that the sound of the 60s really didn't kick in until 1964, with much of the music of 60-63, really was an extension of the 50s.

RIP Smokin Joe Dawson. This was a hot aircheck. B96 always pumped out great jocks and were tight with their sweepers and stop sets.

Hey Ellis, Thanks for the great memories. Besides doing weekend shifts, I also was Production Director, so I have quite a bit of other air checks, promos, and jingles as B96 moved further away from Hot Hits. Buddy Scott had that station rockin' in those days. And hey to Kipper, Ellen (Joe was the nicest jock, I enjoyed working with him and even had a chance to see him in the Atlanta metro some years back. I still live west of Atlanta.)

Excellent playlist and excellent CHR format. 94.7 WLS FM is trying to bring it back with their current Classic Hits format but this is the real deal.

Not to mention the TM AirPower jingles which it was originally officially made for WBBM-FM in 1983, TM Productions and B96 will continue to unleash so many jingles until WBBM-FM decided to choose Thompson Creative to make some in your face "Killer Bee" jingles for the '90's.

B96 is how many years old? Probably forty something. I started liking B96 and other radio stations in 2010s maybe earlier. But this station being around for possibly that long it says quite a few things. One its top 40 station just called hot hits. Also as the years go by music changes. People dance to rock in the 80s. You had electro funk too. The 90s came welp the music changed. Same with the 00s
