Back in the old days, the local news stations were highly revered. I didn’t grow up in Chicago but it has similar styles to other cities in the TV broadcasts.

@@johnnyballenatl - You're correct about WBBM; however, WLS (with Fahey Flynn and Joel Daly, Bill Frink, and John Coleman) was the leader in the local news ratings race, but WMAQ was in last place.

Actually, this broadcast is from October 23, 1975. The NBA scores were the giveaway at the 23:30 mark. If it was Oct. 22, WBBM (and all other TV stations) would show highlights of Game 7 of the World Series--won by the Reds, 4-3.

Back when local news was important and weather was the last thing mentioned, not the first. That CBS theme (called CBS Enforcer) is still being used on some affiliates 45 years later.

By 1975 Richard J Daley didn't have the same powerful political plot he had during the 1950's & 1960's don't forget George McGovern was the 1972 Democratic Nominee for President McGovern wasn't an ideal Daley Democrat
