The 10-note musical foundation for this theme song was written by Jazz trumpeter Dick Marx. It is still being used for news broadcasts all over the country.

Of course, other composers such as Shelly Palmer, Frank Gari, and John Hegner among others continued to give the note more life for the CBS O&O's even after the retirement of the Dick Marx theme. It was, and still is, the network's 'corporate anthem' for some of their TV stations. Obviously, WJZ-TV in Baltimore is pretty much the only exception, thanks to the popularity of the long-running 'Chroma Cues' package.

Nope. That image campaign was instrumental and it had some spoken voiceover in it.
