I've been playing it this way, but past weekend I went to the Sheffield gt, and the TOs, including Josh from the metawatch videos, told me that this is not how it works. You cannot do this unfortunately - the unit must have the ability on the datasheet.

I’m a casual player so Eldrad is going to definitely be in my next list most likely solo and I just love playing the avatar anyway. He’s practically been in every list I’ve had for around 20 years. I played the avatar in my first ever game of 40K and he performed amazing even though we didn’t really know what we were doing, he’s been a staple ever since 😂

Worth clarifying that It's not just foot Farseers that can bounce Branching Fates to Eldrad. Farseer Skyrunners have the exact same wording so you can use the same trick with them.

Tuesday nights MVP vs Votann. Solo in strat res, came in turn three to BEL/Homers fixed. Within 18" of a LandFort, got the doom off - scored 7 secondary. Side note, 5 Fire Dragons with guide then one shot that Fortress, what a turn. Doom is brilliant! Same turn 4. Then turn 5. Phantasm was still enough to keep him out of LOS from the potential threats. Also was my first Eldar model I only bought as a painting hobby piece. 10k points later and it's all his fault...

I can see a combo with Eldrad, a Vyper and Shroud Runners. (army wide: lethal hits, +1 to wound, ignores cover, all on the same unit) You could split this to make more units more vulnerable and that's probably better but I'm a casual player and this seems like more fun.

@@terranaxiomuk Sure! Basically: Movement phase: you want to get eldrad within 18" of the unit, with line of sight, as well as the shrowd runners within 12" of target with line of sight. Hornet should be within 18" to make sure you'll get the hit, but it can still work at 36" if you manage to hit with the brightlance (1A, 3+, eldar reroll, should hit) (or you can get the missile launcher on it to do D6 attacks at 48" but it's not the best weapon ig). Shooting phase: At the start of the shooting phase you activate both Shrowd runners' Target Acquisition ability (at the start of shooting select 1 enemy unit within 12" visible to this unit. Until end of phase, friendly eldar weapons have the Lethal Hits ability when targeting that unit), as well as Eldrad's Doom ability (start off phase, select 1 enemy unit within 18" and visible to this unit, roll 1D6: on a 2+, until end of turn, every attack from a friendly Eldar unit has +1 to wound roll when targeting this unit. It carries over to melee unlike the SR one). Then, your first ranged attack will be the Vyper: you want it to hit. If it hits, you can trigger the Harrassment Fire ability (in shooting phase, after this model has shot, select 1 enemy unit Hit by 1/more of those attacks. Until end of phase, that unit cannot have benefit of cover). And just like that, if you can get a 2+ on Eldrad and at least one 3+ (w/ eldar reroll) on Vyper, the rest of your army will have lethal hits, +1 to wound roll, and ignores cover when targeting that specific unit. It's a pretty hefty ability investment on only one target unit (eldrad 110, SR 80, Vyper 85, tot 275pts worth of abilities, though the shooting can still go elsewhere if you want, other than the Vyper's), and you would probably gain more from splitting those abilities on multiple enemy units, but it's a great way to ensure an unit is not going to survive the turn, and it's fun

@@terranaxiomuk Also, technically nothing prevents you from doing this (minus Eldrad) on 2 units (technically up to 3), by having 2 Vypers and 2 units of Shroud Runners (army wide lethal hits and ignores cover on 2 enemy units), but that starts to eat up points you'd most likely rather put somewhere else

So I've done a fin thing with Eldrad, which by no means is a good/competitive thing to do, but funny none the less. I put him in a falcon with 4 warlocks with spears doom a deep strike them in doom and falcon a unit and light them up. I've had surprisingly good results with it. But I doubt it would work on the top tables. But the look on my opponents face is always funny.

I wonder about the bodyguard stuff. In my opinion Warlock Conclave with 4 is pointed better than guardians. Its an additional 8 wounds (less), but with the -1 wound and the 4++ def better i guess. I intend to use doom several times; my take on that is that enemies are going to want to kill him, and to hide him is not an optimal choice if you are going to be running doom several times and spent your cp on other stuff. I want to take Blades in front of him; then 10 DA with asurmen and eldard with the guys in the open turn 1. You can always lightning fast that unit, making it rly cost ineffecient ro remove (Castigator worst scenario: 9 shots; 4 hit, 3 wound, 1 save = 1 dead), if he targets the DA you run it on those guys instead. Im gonna try this out; i think 2-3 times getting out doom can be evil. And as we know: All the big stuff is coming at ya, and every single unit is gonna multiply on this dude!

Great video, but i think you missed the point bodyguards. A unit of warlock conclave (2 models) is by far the best body guard for eldrad. 1) cheap 2) Eldrad needs to be in the middle, warlocks hide well in ruins with phantasm 3) 4+ invulnerable save and -1 to wound in combination with hiding and a bully unit in front, is incredibly resilient !!

I don't think -1 to wound on T3 models is resilient. The invuln is good, be even a small squad of space marines with bolters can easily wipe the bodyguard

@@WBConcilio i think eldrad should be played as support, hence the cheap warlocks, and ONLY opportunistically attack trying to assassinate a character model. He would be behind a ruin with the warlocks, comes out, doom, then when available phantasm to go behind the wall. In front of him would be a Khaine, and Eldrad would feed the Khaine sixes by extending the Farseer range. Why would i have him face marines?? His role is to support khaine with sixes and other units with Doom

Love your vids. Eldrad is very viable now. Really missed doom. Going to give him a try for sure. For me its a tossup between him and guardians. Easy mode is guardians with their slow drip of Fate Dice and ability to hold the home objective and screen backlines of deepstrike is really nice. And running a Farseer to get FD swapped to 6s. And as you say, harder mode is a bit of points sink/risk, mind twist, to make him work.

Just cant run him solo. Indirect and 3" deepstrikes with shooting. Im struggling to get a list together that feels good that includes him, because if you have him, you need bodyguards, and you also want to run farseers of both kinds. Are you going to do a post slate list you think is optimal ?

Brent, I enjoyed the video, as always. I’m wondering though, if Eldrad is behind the Avatar, then what is the foot farseer doing? If I’m not using fortune on the Avatar then I’m not sure what I’d use it on. Might a farseer skyrunner be a better farseer compliment to Eldrad? A farseer skyrunner leading some windriders might be more useful than having a farseer in the backline just to get access to branching fates.

The foot farseer can put Fortune on the Avatar turn 1 before it moves, and could move with Eldrad if you want it to and have nothing else for it to do in the backfield. I am never at a loss for a good target for Fortune. But yeah, you could use a Skyrunner for sure

It's not bad, and I should have mentioned it. It does rely on your opponent moving vehicle units within 18" of Eldrad in a list with Sky Weavers, but I suppose you could also start him in reserve for this

I don't know, the phantasm 1" is fine in theory but it still seems much too easy to get LOS on him. Then when you set up your attack rolling a 1 on doom is just devastating, finally the 3 extra fate dice is only for the first roll so I would also assume you really lose a lot if you opt to reroll it. ...and then you hope that you're not up against any indirect. A lot of people will get amazing use out of him, especially if you can get doom off with dragons/ spiders/ specters to take advantage of it but I'm struggling
