Converting former office towers do not provide "affordable housing" to the masses. True, there is the cost in conversion, and the developers pass that cost onto the buyers. I very seriously doubt that any unit in a former office tower will sell for $55k? Maybe $255k?

They can turn eastland mall into affordable housing. MOVE IN AS IS! The homeless can have it and they can do the repairs. The poor neighborhoods bankrupted the mall by stealing from the stores over the years. Why do they deserve cheap housing? The city (via corrupt judge) stole the property from some one who had some businesses in there and kept up maintenance, but now it is empty and rotting. They are building a school in one of the former stores but rest of the mall is a mess. Why didn't city tear it down as part of the legal deal disclosed in court?
