Death toll is clouding up what really needs to be reported at this time and it's shelter from the cold and the help these people will need to not be homeless.

But we do. There were 748 homeless in Asheville who lived along the river, most of which ate gone. Entire families have died. Entire communities have died. Two personal separate accounts of seeing 1000 boy bags with bodies. The military, when they initially showed up here with Chinook helicipters, were not bringing supplies, not rescuing people, but were whisking away the dead. They covered up the number of people found. If the real number had been known from the beginning, it would have required a much larger response from the governor and federal officials, which they clearly didn't want to do I saw one report when a SARS team member was taking apart a pile. They had to do it carefully because they digs hit on it several times. There were a couple ofxDEMA people standing there, so he told them about it. The next day, when they came to continue the search, those same FEMA officials started that pile on fire!

This is definitely a bit of a rant. I remember in going through this I had a friend tell me that he asked how many bodies they pulled from his river behind his house and it was about 70- that was when the public death toll was around 15 - idk why but they don't want the people to know how bad they messed up or how bad of a situation this really is- my other friend had a street of ten to twenty people on top of the mountain and her and her boyfriend are the only ones left alive because they hiked down it during the storm. Not to mention, the whole trek of neighborhoods washed out in swananoa as mentioned- that alone im sure is close to a hundred- and that is not even touching lake lure areas amongst the others- they try to say its 100- but living through it and seeing it I know it was well above it. What frustrates me the most, and even my friends who lived through it was the lack of honesty on how bad and truly awful the situation was and knowing that no matter what we said (not even my family in another state) no one else would truly understand how bad it was. I am happy California isn't going through the same lack of awareness we did, but sometimes it is frustrating as we still try to recover. I wouldn't wish that negligence on anybody else ever. Im lucky I applied for FEMA right away to get extra help (money to last a day or so-but I didn't need a hotel) but my friend who saw all the bodies and lost her car and house was denied and had to go back to the scene more than once to try to get approved before ultimately giving up and just moving away. (there is only so long you can wait for help) please help California but don't forget about the fact that you never truly knew what happened in here and there are some places/people still recovering.
@lauranowak36322 күн бұрын
I don’t know if there was any kind of “action plan” in the event something like this happened in that part of our country? I truly don’t know for certain. I do feel truly bad for those that are still in the region trying to rebuild, and living amongst squalid conditions. I know that I donated money, as well as my parents who also donated a bunch of clothing that went into hard hit areas through a friend’s church. I want everyone to know that we are also staunch Democrats who feel absolutely terrible for anyone who is a victim of any natural disaster. I feel beside myself for those in California, just as I did for my fellow citizens in Maui. Not all Democrats are heartless heathens. Many of us do truly care. For what happened in Maui I can’t say, but I was disgusted at how fast major conglomerates tried to buy up native land faster than I can blink. For those suffering the effects of Helene & Milton I watched as major / minor roadways were just washed away, and not being an engineer wondered how help would reach such remote areas? I think that the Army Corps of Engineers needs to be deployed, and stationed in the hardest hit areas until the areas can be stabilized. California is accessible, but a rekindle is a true nightmare. Those embers can smolder for weeks. One good wind, and a fire is born. I used to dispatch, and my biggest fire call was a controlled burn that went out of control. I also worked floods that lasted for days that happened every few years, and when you offer to rescue someone who won’t leave without their golf clubs it gets frustrating. They eventually call back 3 days later from their attic. Every weather catastrophe is different, but we all need to stand together as citizens of this country. I feel terrible for everyone affected by Mother Nature’s wrath over the last 14 -16 months. I hope that we as a country can rebuild.

It was a man made hurricane and the fires in California were intentionally set using Direct Energy Weapons just like in Maui. Both are to land grab. They hide behind their agencies to do their dirty work.

Our government didn’t care about Helene victims. They had rather send money overseas than to help their own first. There’s no acceptable excuse for our government.

This shows how much our government can step up and help and where, in situations like this, there is no way for resources not to be stretched so thin it appears there is hardly any help at all. We are in no way prepared for coming climate disasters. Tax the rich so we dont eat them!

I've lived in NC my entire 56 years and I'm disgusted with this state. You might as well call it something else cause it's not the same state that I use to love.

Reinstate the laws reagan overturned. Reinstate Truth in Broadcasting and Advertising. Stop this sensationalism, lies and misinformation. Thank you for your report addressing this atrocity.

Obama is the one who changed the law so news can lie, look it up. It was called the Smith-Muntdz modernization act and made it legal for news agencies to lie and use open propaganda on the American public.

Perhaps a closer estimate to a real number of lives lost will be known around April 15th (tax filing day). The enormity of the financial losses from the floods and deaths of the victims in NC, together with the fires in SoCA with the loss of retail taxes and the assessed county property taxes (imagine the property tax revenue on 1,000+homes valued at avg. $2 million), will send shock waves in multiple sectors (banking, insurance, utilities, retail, energy, tourism) of our economy in the months ahead.
