You might remember it, but it was never on WCBS.

I remember the very first one in this set being the top of the hour ID jingle in the 70s to early 80s or so, after you would hear four or so chimes and then a long beep to indicate the actual top of the hour, "WCBS covers the world at..."

If memory serves, the original synth jingles were arranged and recorded by Walter Carlos, of "Switched-On Bach" fame. He later went through gender-change surgery, and re-recorded some of them as Wendy Carlos!

Actually, they were produced by the late Eric Siday, who was friends with Carlos. Siday also did the Maxwell House Percolator, CBS TV Color Presentation logo and many other things.

I always liked the one at 0:52. I believe it was used for traffic. Another CBS-affiliated (though not owned) station, KQV in Pittsburgh, used it for a time (don't know exactly how long). It was also used in a non-traffic context on a West Virginia-based radio network.

Same thing in my area. The local station just bought the WCBS imaging package and used it as their own until they switched over to ABC. For a while, they were an ABC affiliate still using the WCBS imaging. It was awkward. It was replaced with something they did in-house and sound like toddlers banging trash can lids together. Huge huge step down from the WCBS stuff. The station itself went in the toilet. Long gone now.
