decades (literally) later i still come back and rewatch. i played games (mostly counter strike and starcraft) on and off for years but this finals is what truly sparked my love for esports. the combination of epic micro, insane strategy/macro, and tastosis commentary; i feel so blessed to have lived through this timeline.

@NebraskaGrunt you can read a really good article about it on teamliquid. But a few reasons is that after Warcraft and Diablo, Starcraft with its great potential came out. This was at the same time where broadband and internet cafes all around Korea began to flourish. This meant that a lot of people were playing. And then little by little some chances were given to show SC on TV and such and then in the end it turned out really big.

JustARandom Guy123MC There's another unit that can be warped in the Access: the Stalker, who can shoot both air and ground and have great mobility, with a spell that can makes them to teleport. The dragoons were "improved" in the protoss story and now they are called immortals, a Robotic Facility unit that can only shoot ground but has a shield that protects them from attacks that does great damage (In other words, they can't receive more than 10 damage), so tanks in siege mode and so aren't effective against them. And they're badass.

Codex i'm comparing with all type of game with different type of mechanisms. and yes, im saying that starcraft brood war is arguably one of the greatest game of all time. brood war is the reason why Esport is so big today because everything happened from Koreans playing sc1 broodwar and then foreign countries started doing the same thing. basically LoL and other games wouldve not been popular like right now if it wasn't sc1. I may sound like a total but im just a Korean .

In starcraft 2 the reason why its not fun to play in my opinion is because first the game is not a balance game. Protoss is hard to beat too powerful for terran and zerg. Second blizzard didn't allow you to play lan. 3rd blizzard became too greedy released 3 games, first wings of liberty then heart of the swarm and legacy of the void rather than releasing the game that it has 3 races in one game and then releasing the expansion with additional troops and buildings maps ang campaign like they did in Starcraft. There are other several reasons than this. Starcraft 2 will never reach the popularity, kind of gameplay, replayability, fun to play and a well balance game like its predecessor Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War. See, becoming a greedy game developer will make your games look bad and fans will lose faith slowly. Starcraft on the other hand is still popular until this day and I am hoping they will bring back Starcraft: Brood War in world championship tournaments.

sounds to me like you did not even bother to buy starcraft 2. its epic in campain and if you really would know the game, you would see that its sooo much more than just broodwar units wich makes it even more complex and advanced. So if you want to continue massing carriers, battlecruisers or guardians dont play Sc2, but if you actually can play starcraft, you will love it.

They're actually much more different than that. The ease of control and macro alone in comparison is an enormous difference in the way the games play. The ease with which you can get together a 200/200 army and lead it around in a one control group ball versus SC1s 12 unit and individual production selection presents huge differences in ability needed to play well. This also applies at a pro level.

Jaedong is like a machine, he always knows the perfect counter-strategy against a strategy. The problem is that almost anyone fights against him by trying to be a better machine, but thats almost impossible...you have to be a better human mind, you have to surprise him, you have to do non-conventional attacks so that he's outmached in a fight witch uses spontaneous, not pacticed, non-learned chains of action...thats the only way i think:)

Friends played together. Obviously one against another. More friends came in. They started playing each other. Decided they want to make a little competition. Invited more people for the hell of it. At the same time people elsewhere did the same. Sooo.... Met up @ lan's, made bigger tournaments. Eventually added prizes and participating fee and so on.
