The store manager stated that it was not the suspect, after the entire encounter... The cops never consulted the manager when they first arrived... They went on to lie and state that the manager pointed out the Black shopper as the suspect... Regardless, the cop's radio/CB was clear that the actual suspect was in another part of the store, has the officer walked to the Black shopper... It was made clear in the dispatch call that the suspect is White and in another part of the store, yet the interrogation of the Black shopper took place... The store manager attempted to lead the training officer away without alerting the Black shopper to the actual White criminal being captured... Thereafter, the excuses and damage control of the cops took place.

I belive this falls under poor leadership on the behalf of the senior officer but the training office went along with it to back up his team leader and was following orders agenst his better judgment. @HelloKittyFanMan.2 жыл бұрын
It was still a mistake because they did something they shouldn't have done. They did something wrong and racistly inexcusable! So this is a mistake in the overall-big-picture sense that even if you intend to rob a bank and you do so, it was a bad decision. Wrong decisions are mistakes in the grand scheme of life in general, even if the specific targeting actions of a situation weren't mistakes individually. One of the shades of meaning of the word "mistake" is "to be in error." Being in error is anything that takes you farther away from perfection. Thus, "mistake" does _not_ only mean "done intentionally." Besides, plenty of mistakes do come with lies. People make one and then lie about it plenty of times. Lying is a mistake because when you do it you have to keep maintaining the first in a given situation with more and more until you eventually blow up. And then when that happens, you see how much of a flawed plan it was.

"They made mistakes here" - No, they didn't. They made intentional choices. A mistake is when you do something that was unintended, such as thinking of the word "sent" but writing the word "send". When you, on video, explicitly state that an individual doesn't look anything like the description provided to you, but you decide to target that individual anyway, you cannot claim that that is a mistake. Additionally, explicitly lying about the color of the jacket was not a mistake. Also, the claim that "mirroring" (looking at) a police officer can be interpreted a sign of guilt is infuriating. They're now telling us that looking at a police officer is a sign of guilt and (as has always been the case) that NOT looking at a police officer is a sign of guilt. Where, exactly, is that presumption of innocence of which we speak so highly? Lastly, that part about the officers not being able to tell this man's race when they saw him is just laughable. Even if we were to believe that claim, they could clearly identify his race once they started approaching him and, because that was yet one more thing that was diametrically opposed to the description provided of the suspect, there was no reason to question him. An administrative warning isn't nearly enough of a punishment for that kind of betrayal of the public trust. Government officials at all levels seem to have forgotten that the ONLY reason they have those jobs is because we, the people, gave that power to them in order to carry out those jobs on our behalf and that we have placed our trust in them. When that trust is destroyed, there is no longer any reason for them to keep those jobs and that power.

👆🏾This cause this chief was getting on my nerves. Like hell no. This wasn’t a mistake. They acknowledge that the man did not look like the description, they lied about the description of the man and double down on him being suspicious when literally did nothing. And the fact that when the reporter told how he was wrong he made more excuses. What do you think that he came back into the store after shopping lifting and had changed his race and outfit? What?!? And was when on about how they couldn’t tell his race. BULLSHIT!!! One they all really made it aware that he did not fit the description of the man and Two there is no way is hell you can not tell that he is not white. Even if he wasn’t black he still doesn’t look black. Why is that when black people are described in a crime the police take it so seriously but when it’s a white man y’all fool around. Why you harp on black people for living there lives and not going anything. We can literally be minding our own business doing something trivial and some how we are doing something wrong. There is not doubt in my mind that this was racial profiling. God! Cases like this make dislike the police even more than I already do.

@@OthoWilliamsJr For reference, I am a 55 year old "early" Gen-Xer. I was born and grew up in Baltimore City, in a racially mixed neighborhood. As kids, we were ALL friends, and we didn't see the skin colour of others until it was pointed out to us by the adults. Even still, we didn't really care. It didn't matter if you were black, white, Asian, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern. If you were nice, you were accepted as a friend. As we got older, we began to see the differences in regard to sexual orientation, but that STILL didn't matter. If you were friendly to us, we were friends. Period. When the topic of "Same Sex Marriage" came up, it was my generation that went before the Supreme Court to argue on their behalf. Somehow, we were able to convince even the conservative Baby Boomers that it was the right thing to do. Yes, I am proud of that fact, even though I only cast a ballot in support of it on the Maryland state level. Don't get me wrong, I went through my "young and dumb" phase, but I did get past it, and use that life experience to be a better person. I've attempted to make amends for my own personal mistakes, and I think that's why I am at peace with the man I've become. I believe in fairness, equality, and justice for all. I also recognize that our system is completely broken, and skewed against those who lack the financial backing to afford equality and justice. There is also an inherent bias against minorities that needs to be dealt with. Equality and justice should not come with a financial cost. The wealthiest country on the planet still has people living on the streets, without proper healthcare, or even the means to survive. Hell, the Constitution itself says that you have a right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. How does one find Life and Happiness while living on the streets, begging for money simply to survive? These are complex problems that will take time to fix, but in the meantime, people will continue to suffer these injustices, and it's not right.
