whats up with the new judge? I thought if its not a clear/obvious tag then its a given evasion. Now this new guy seems to enjoy wasting time looking at the monitor

It takes quite some time to get all angles and the proper zoom in. What you are seeing live is not exactly what the referee has on their screen. Also, those decisions have huge repercussions for teams and athletes so you're right, if it's not clear/obvious it's a given evasion but they can't decide without first checking all camera angles at their disposal as sometimes a decision based on 1 or 2 camera angles can be completely overturned by getting the 3rd angle ;)

Yeah he looked too long and overturned it way too often. Tie goes to the runner. Or the play on the field "stands" if it can't be confirmed. So weird that WCT camera replay guy just makes the decision and that the fact that there was a ref right there who already made the initial call gets ignored. The Rooftop Kings one was the worst of many bad ones in this stream, where there was no clear angle of a touch at all for that replay judge to reverse the call, especially when in the replay there's a ref 2 feet away who didn't see a touch at the time.

What actually happened when an athlete would call a DTR is that referees would make either the tag/evasion sign if they were 100% sure of what they saw OR would put their hand in front of their throat to signify they don’t know/didn’t see enough to make a call. In the first scenario, the head ref would trust the line referees. In the second scenario he’d go check the video and make his assumptions based on the video and discussion with 2 other referees in the control room watching video as well. The reason some cameras seem low fps is because they’re capped at 50fps as they’re connected wirelessly and any higher fps wouldn’t allow us to have cameramen running along the lines. Is it a perfect system ? No. Should we go to video every time an athlete asks for it even if a referee has seen it 100% ? No as the video may also not have filmed it. Will we improve it again ? Yes. Bear in mind also what looks like a long time for you during the feed is the time needed for the replay operator to show each and every angle + zooming in.

@@Tmb1112 I just watched the rooftop kings match and that tag call was rough. It was not clear in the least and there was a ref watching right there with no tag call too...

1:42:28 i thought it was up to the tagger to make the tag clear. Idk how that wasn't an evasion. Me thinks other things came into play... even the crowd knew it.

I'm so suprised at how bad and extremely slow the japanese and swedish team are... because those countries has some great parkour athletes, obviously not on these teams.. but hopefully they'll be represented better in the future.
