WCW in 1990 was one of the worst years for Ted Turner's wrestling division. Despised booker Ole Anderson took control of WCW and ran it into the ground in a year that saw Robocop come to save Sting and The Black Scorpion come to destroy him. Ric Flair was there too.

I was really into the Black Scorpion stuff, myself..... I mean I was 8 going on 9 at the time so, make of that what you will. It WAS a bit disappointing it was Ric Flair. But in my kid brain it made sense, since Flair and Sting were rivals.

Sting and Ric Flair are my favorite wrestlers. I was 8 years old in these days and I thought Robocop was awesome to help Sting fight off the Four Horsemen. Also the Black Scorpion was scary until he was revealed out of the shadows. Once again I was just a kid, being an adult now that stuff was cheesy

I was in St. Louis for Starcade in 1990. The culmination of the Black Scorpion reveal of Ric Flair. By far the worst ppv I've witnessed

About a year ago I finally finished watching every single piece of both WCW and WWE programming (WorldWide, Saturday Night, Main Event, Pro, Power Hour, Superstars, Wrestling Challenge, and the PPVs) in chronological order. I have been stuck in April 1991 for what feels like an eternity due to real life. Just like WCW 2000, the storylines were trash in WCW 1990, but the actual WRESTLING was still light years ahead of WWE. WCW FOR LIFE AND FOREVER!!!!

its nice to look back at all this, WcW and WWF didn't seem so ridiculous back then, but watching these vids has me in disbelief that I ever watched any of this.

1990 was destroyed because Flair had pushed the young guys up the roster, Sting, Pillman, Steiners, Zenk and Ole hated Ric by this point so he dismantled all the good work Ric and Jim Cornette had done from 1989. Most of those guys were always blaming Flair but it was actually Ole that did it.

That black scorpion character wasn't needed. The WWF at the time wouldn't have pulled that! The only way if that would've worked if it was a superstar from another federation like the Ultimate Warrior.....but he was WWF world champion at the time.

I mean, am I really hearing this? Making a competitive match with Z Man and Vader is what the company needed? Why wouldn’t it be a total squash? Yeah those early 90’s years were rough for WCW but Vader was one of the biggest heels in the history of WCW. That’s a real reach there. With as much that was falling apart for them at the time, singling out Vader seems strange
@StunnedByWrestling
@StunnedByWrestling 2 жыл бұрын
Point was Zenk had been pushed as both part of his team with Pillman and in singles, was decent in the ring, the fans were into him, but Anderson picked on him not just on Vader's debut but previously too. He could've chosen an actual jobber instead. Also Zenk had planned a more competitive match rather than a squash, but Anderson called it in the ring for Vader to finish him 5 minutes earlier than planned. Sorry I should have made that clearer

Ole Anderson was a moron end of story. Undertaker mentions in a interview when he was new to the bussiness and in WCW Ole Anderson told him "no one would pay to see him wrestle........short time later he Debuted in WWF as the Undertaker , fans loved him , paid to see him and proved Ole Anderson wrong. and he was in wrestling for 30 years.....pretty good for a guy who was told no one would pay to see him wrestle.

its so funny people rip on the Black Scorpion story line. everything i read has most fans enjoying it, and it kept them guessing. while i agree that it failed ultimately because there never was an end point planned out, and nobody wanted to see it be flair, it still captured everyone for the months and months it went on for. the match at clash of the champions had my basement tv room full of all my friends from school and i. we were transfixed!
@ShadowAngel-lt8nw
@ShadowAngel-lt8nw Жыл бұрын
It gets ripped because the end was so bad with Flair. Anybody would've been a better choice and there were a few options available, the three best options wouild've been Rick Rude (he had left the WWF a couple months earlier), Eddie Gilbert or Nikita Koloff. The latter two even fitting the whole "I'm from your past" thing.
