It's crazy. Not too long after this, you're gonna be starting to go through the year 2000. Not only is that the last calendar year of the Monday Night War; it's the last calendar year of WCW's existence. Plus, not only is 2000 one of the highest periods for WWF/WWE, it's the lowest for WCW. Some very interesting times are almost upon us. Also, I'd like to thank you, Wrestling Bios, for all your work; especially on this series. It's very good to listen watch, and listen to. Thanks to this series, I have a better time looking for good TV matches to seek out, such as Cactus Jack vs Triple H, on the September 22nd, 1997 episode of RAW. Thank you again, for all your hard work; and keep up the good work.

Crazy David Flair was one of the absolute highlights of late 99, 2000 WCW. Some might see that as an indictment, but I really think that he came into his own as a character. "Crazy" is an overused wrestling trope/gimmick nowadays but it wasn't necessarily in 1999.

Very true the crazy gimmick is very overused nowadays it's not as interesting as it used to be but back in the '90s it was something that was never seen before and the best to do it was Brian pillman he did that gimmick to perfection because Brian made you believe he was crazy Don't get me wrong David flair did excellent with the gimmick but nobody did the crazy gimmick better than Brian pillman

We're getting into the year 2000. My prediction: Nitro gets 2 points at most over RAW in this series.
@MyndirАй бұрын
I'll go further and say 6, just because RAW had a few rough episodes in late 2000 and there were moments of lucidity in WCW's booking, especially in late 2000/early 2001, like someone coming in and out of a fever. Plus while I liked most 2000 WWF booking, I remember finding a lot of the HHH/DX stuff repetitive, as if they were enjoying their own nWo style "wa-ha-wha-waw-waw" booking where the faces looked like losers. The booking of the Wrestlemania 2000 main event put me off WWF entirely for a while - just stringing fans along, not delivering, and of course McMahons stinking up the main event scene while young brilliant wrestlers were stuck in midcard Limbo.
@iDeathMaximuMIIАй бұрын
@@MyndirIt really shows in the ratings in late 2000. The last time RAW hit over a 6 in the ratings was the Go-Home show to Summerslam. From late August up to the end of the Monday Night Wars, RAW would even let Nitro somewhat creep up on them once. I believe it was the 5th anniversary show for Nitro where they scored a 3.6 RAW scored a 4.4 A comfort lead still for the WWF But that was the closest WCW had gotten to RAW since February 2000 & before that, August 1999. Before I keep rambling, the point is. RAW would only score around a 4.3 to 5.8 during the final months of the Monday Night Wars. WWF had become complacent.

The one show German comedian Tom Gerhardt called as a guest commentator for Premiere World in Germany, which lead to a storyline and an actual match with Alex Wright at a German WCW show in February 2000. What amazes me to this day is how Dave Meltzer of all people got wind of it, right down to listing what Gerhardt said on commentary and what he did as a comedian in Germany so far. I assume someone from WCW must have talked to Dave, perhaps even someone from the regular German announcers, cause they were fed up with their guest commentator?

The booking of the Sting/Luger match encapsulates everything that's wrong with WCW in this era. Sting outsmarts them and still loses. The beginning of the end for a lot of stuff here. Bret Hart's final weeks as a proper wrestler, following the concussions he suffered here. The final month-ish for the future Radicalz, due to them getting fed up with WCW's creative efforts. And it's also the final weeks of Vince Russo's initial run as booker, as he decides to just stay home prior to Souled Out (& he'd be gone until just prior to Spring Stampede for "The Great Reset").

The biggest thing I was looking for in watching this is ANY SIGNS AT ALL of the massive infamous “swerve bro” coming on Monday that all of this was supposedly building towards. The best booked show Vince Russo was ever somewhat responsible for- survivor series deadly game was telling you what was going to happen throughout the show. The only thing building to what’s coming on Monday is the outsiders being disruptive and Jeff Jarrett el kabonging seemingly everyone. It’s not like the silver and black end up mattering as Bret’s about to retire, Vince is on his way out, and hulk would be back YAPPAPI within a month. It’s just one of the reasons Raw pulled ahead was its ability to tell long form stories people would want to turn into follow Arguably the mamalukes is the only storyline working right now

I still get misty eyed 😞 when I see Daffney She was a huge crush of mine and seeing how what she endured during TNA and her later years was nothing but heartbreaking 🖤

David Flair's crazy storyline brought us Daffney, so it makes me glad. Also, he's legitimately amusing to me in this role. He shouldn't have been taken seriously in the first place because he threw his all into that role (for whatever that was worth). Also, Daffney was so beautiful and always fun to watch. I've always loved the goth/alt girls over the All-American types. She gives Fairuza's Nancy in The Craft if she was lovesick instead of bitter.

Bret's WWF theme from the mid 90s is iconic, for me his WCW 99 theme is his best.

Man, I can't believe we have essentially reached the end of Hart in Reliving The War. Where did the time go?

And Scott Hall too, he had three more televised matches in February and that was it for bom in WCW.
@Cableguy15Ай бұрын
@@DBoy38 It was all downhill for Hall after 1998, sadly. Honestly, same goes for Nash even though he wrestled more matches in 1999. Feels like he's just cruising by on charisma after a certain point and doing as little as possible in the ring.
@zlinedavidАй бұрын
@@Cableguy15Nash did turn 40 during that year, and 40 for a big man hits a little harder. Not really a huge shock seeing him slow it down in the ring.

Reminder that Bischoff unironically believed that a collab with KISS in 1999 was needed to save WCW.

I remember when David Flair was at the WWE Performance Center teaching Kurt Angle how to wrestle when the Undertaker showed up and blindsided him.

"Bunkhouse Sleeper-Hold" is an apt description of this era in WCW.
