This is my current Unboxing & Review of the WD Black D10 8TB External Harddrive. I wanted to see how it would perform on the PS5, the same item is currently on special on EB Games' website, I will attach the link below.
www.ebgames.co...
Not sure how long that price will last but it's also available elsewhere but I am not sure if the price will be matched & so far, it can only be bought at EB Games via their website!

I just purchased the 2TB wd black sn850 ssd for the internal ps5 storage port and was thinking of getting this mainly to just store games, soo my ssd and internal memory of the ps5 run the games

@MrCaboose83 thank you for your comment! Yes sir, that is a great drive the cost is also decent considering it's one of the bigger brands. They are around $450 to 500 at the moment, Ideally I would like to max out & get a 4tb once & for all..... So have the WD Black 8TB for PS4 & past gen stuff then have 4TB plus the original NVME which is just under 1TB for all the next gen games as the files sizes are getting bigger & some games have next Gen Upgrades & Patches. There are games you play once & delete but then there are games that you can play from time to time or with a large online component, so downloading 100gb over & over might not be viable. I intend to do a review on the Sabrent 4TB Rocket Plus.... It's not a top brand nor is it the fastest but at the same time I don't know how much speed of these drives is going to be a factor as the Gen is just beginning so some games might demand more speeds or it might not make a difference at all. We will talk about the XBox as well, as that can have multiple external drives at a time via USB, the external ssd expansion port but also replacing the original internal SSD.... Keep watching this space for updates 😊

@Clayt Alien.... This is a good drive.... My apologies to all for not uploading more Unboxings & Reviews working on something big & better solutions for those making the Jump from PS4 to PS5. But.... For bulk storage this is by far the best solution & maximum you can load on the console unless you do a 2TB internal drive or a 4tb SSD but the SSD option will be expensive & you aren't getting that big of a performance jump. Cheapest 4tb SSD in 2.5" form factor is about 400-450 Australian dollars that's ridiculous so not worth it so best you can do is migrate your content to a PS5 & when NVME prices drop get a 4tb NVME on the PS5 The Series X does accept multiple drives though, I will do a video later..... Thanks for watching & commenting

Can u put ps5 games on there and play them now?
@TheInformedConsumer
@TheInformedConsumer 2 жыл бұрын
@Aaron Vickers.... Thank you for your question. No you can’t, it’s mainly to store your previous content from the PS4 generations & below. Also things like gameplay capture & other apps that you may use on the console. In saying that you can move a PS5 game onto the drive for storage purposes but when it’s time to play the game you have to move it from the external drive back to the main console drive. Depending on your internet speed you have in your area, that maybe be faster option than downloading the game & installing the updates off the PSN The newer games require faster storage than previous drives, as they have features like quick resume & faster load times. To expand your ps5 internally or for ps5 games that you can play right away you will need an NVME They are still a bit pricey but you can get 1TB for about 100 Australian Dollars, it’s the bigger capacities that are priced a bit crazy, 4TB is about $750 out here, not sure about prices in the States but that’s the same price as the console

Hello! I've got a question, is it normal it gets hot? It's the very first external HDD from this line I get so it's kinda unusual for me to notice it warmer than my old WD Elements 4Tb one. Hope you can reply. Kind regards from México! And many thanks! 😺

Yes, it is What exactly is the model of your WD and Seagate drive? Certain features baked into a drive will make it run hotter, but also some allow it to cool better hence the higher operating temperature. Mainly the RPM of said drive, the higher the RPMs the more heat produced, but there are also minor design differences that will change said temperatures. I explained this a bit in a few comments below also are you using it in a tv unit or out in the open. I am not sure also is the smaller capacity drives have a fan to help with the cooling. Temperatures vary by drive design more so than simply by manufacturer; meaning that within one manufacturer's lineup there are models that run cooler or hotter than others. My small sample set leads me to believe that when observing comparable drive types (i.e. use case, capacity, number of platters, speed, etc.) temperature differences are often and perhaps even largely nominal when used as designed. It looks like WD Purple's specs (i.e. MTBF) are quoted using 40 degrees at the base casting... I wonder if you have a hotter than normal example, a problem with a sensor, or even in the measurement tool? In any case, it seems like the drive is still operating within design specifications and I personally wouldn't expect an untimely heat-related failure. Some of these comments were also placed on Reddit for context sake

Haha I had to laugh at that comment... I promise I do, I have removed the rear panel of the tv unit, also don't run them all at the same time, I blow them out with compressed air every 3 - 4 months just to prevent dust build up. Much appreciated though 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Is your hard drive still working?
@TheInformedConsumer
@TheInformedConsumer 2 ай бұрын
@yohinotyoshi5378 Hi there, sorry for the late response.... Yes indeed the harddrive is still working, please tell me what your issues are with yours? These drives are your classic spinning drives, so as long as there are no magnets around, you don't jostle or vibrate it, unplug it randomly as well eject it properly whenever you need to it should be ok. I will do a video of these soon just giving an update to this as well as the Seagate Xbox branded on as well, they both have fans that probably need to be cleaned as they can get just as dusty as the consoles I will upload soon just been dealing with family & other personal matters, thank you for your question

@@TheInformedConsumer okay, I was just asking because I was thinking about buying it but my friends were telling me the shelf life of external hard drives is only like 2 to 3 years. So I was just curious if you were still working 😊

@GLRYB2GB Yes it does as long as the console is not in standby mode..... It also depends if in standby the console is doing updates on PS4 games as well

@Delivrex keep it connected up to the console, as long as the drive is good speed it will be great for PS4 games, when NVME SSDs drop in price you will be able to expand internally & install ps5 titles. Another way to look at it, you can move ps5 games you are not playing to an external drive & depending on your next work speeds it’s faster to move the game install from external hdd to internal ssd that it is to download & install the game. 1 advantage the Series X has over the PS5 is the ability to connect multiple drives at the same time, all you need is a USB hub

Seagate drives suck now. I used them in the 80's, 90's, 20's and they were fine. WD is now the way to go!
@TheInformedConsumer
@TheInformedConsumer 9 ай бұрын
@walterreichard6222 I think it's a fair balance, in my 2000s & 2010s I only used WD drives & had a bad run. I have been using Seagate on my PC & Series X but the WD is still behaving a year after this review so that's a good thing. External SSDs are now also getting cheaper so you will be able to store heaps of stuff as well as get decent performance soon. HDDs are still great for storing bulk
