good video. I used one of those plastic tools, they give you to replace a mobile phone screen, and started at the corner of the case to start and it was a lot easier to run the tool around the lip rather than brace it open as i went. thank you for your hard work it saved me a lot of time.

If you attempt to force the long edges apart in the way shown you will break the lugs securing the outer casing to the chassis assembly. Using a screwdriver will also damage the casing further. To separate the casing from the chassis you must slide the chassis out, using a plastic separator tool inserted (like a wedge) between the round edge of the casing (top and bottom) and the casing to ease it out. When the clips securing the casing to the chassis are free the casing will slide easily. It requires patience and great care.

You only have to pry open the edges along the back (where the network jack is). The LED optical cable is a pain when putting it back together because the rubber that covers the screw needs to be worked around (instead of removed). The LED no longer works for me, but I guess that's not really important. I was able to upgrade the 2TB drive to a 4TB drive and re-imaged the drive to get it to work. Thanks for posting.

You shouldn't pry the sides open like that, you'll break the latches. The case slides apart on rails.

Thank you for sharing. Is it possible to replace the Green drive with a Red drive? My understanding is, that for NAS the RED series is superior to GREEN series .. why I am curious why WD did not mount this from the beginning.

Michael Mortensen i was thinning of replacing with an ssd. Just want to know if it can be done i can save and replace all the data i have on my drive. I use the network drive as a media server and can access it when im out of the house. An ssd would speed things up if possible.

In your case, you have it easy. I bricked my 2TB with some apt-get install commands, so I needed an original backup image. In your case, you have to learn how to partition and dd your new drive with linux. If you don't want to mess with those commands, search on google for Mybook Clone Feature Pack.

Thanks for the tutorial. This should definitely be of some use. My personal MYBOOKLIVE must have took a firmware update which has bricked the OS. The drive has some really important data on there. Question is, will removing and connecting the HDD to my Win 7 machine allow me access to my files?

The only part I had trouble with was with putting back the rubber guard that houses the LED. HOWEVER, I had tested the LED before re-assembling and there was no light emitted from the tiny square. Could be a lot of reasons... the hard drive (Seagate 4TB instead of WD), the firmware, etc. I don't remember the last time I saw the LED work, so it may be irrelevant.

Can you kindly advise which software you used to image/clone the 2TB to your 4TB? I have a MBL 1TB and planning to go bigger, and understand it is not as simple as just replacing the drive. The image of the original drive has to be cloned onto the new drive.

My LED stopped working shortly after I got it. It started working months later for no apparent reason but for only for a few days. I was surprised to see a red light when I did my first reset but that soon stopped working. I previously had WD Netcenter that went bad but it was the HDD. Here's hoping that its just the MBL controller.

I dropped mine yesterday from about 2 feet i tried turning it on and it does it makes the reading sounds in the beginning the lights are blue but then it goes to solid red....i tried to set it up to our new network since we moved from the last time i actually used it i'm just scared that something broke on the fall....it's not able to have the solid green light therefore the setup guide doesn't find it...what should i do anyone? please.

Trade in to WD while it's still available for this model. They are taking all trade in Of MBL til October 31 2021. Once you trade in they give you a 40% code to purchase update version of MBL.

Hi Saurabh. I am totally disgusted with the WD My Cloud Box!. I hate it :¬( Because it is so slow and the software does not work with Linux propely. SO.... This is wrong Begin at the curved part, pry it open a little, and then the cover will slide about half way easily, where it can be spread open a little to get it off. I tried your way and it wrecked the clips inside, before I noticed that should slide back.
