Documentary by Oliver Schwabe
FROM HERE - 40 Years of NEW MODEL ARMY celebrates a band that has not only remained true to itself, but is still able to inspire and carry away 40 years after its founding - without succumbing to commercial concessions or losing its own attitude. Justin Sullivan and his band New Model Army are not only a bit old-fashioned and therefore very likeable, but the band is simply cult.

Dipped in and out since the late 80s. Only ever seen one show at Reading in 89, which I barely remember. More lasting, I remember meeting other fans. The tribe. Watching this today, under lockdown with a cold February wind blowing, I'm humbled by Justin's integrity; that's tough to sustain for 40 years. Bless you, sir. Love the EMI story. Hell, I would have bought Thunder for the cover alone...

As a writer of a wee newspaper column in Bradford when the band were 'formed ' and seeds were planted I simply knew the flows and glows then. And travelling down to London with Robb after the Bradford City Fire to help create the single You'll Never Walk Alone was one of thee profound moments for me as an old Hippie. He was the heart beat essence with Justin, Stuart and Joolz and what a wonderful spirit flowed through him and you all. It is still flowing on. Bradford did not seem to get ya!!! Despite my writings and trying to reach wider. The flow is forever - skills, gifts, crafts come and go and all is evolving - always. Shine NMA shine. We follow the tail lights out of the city Moving in a river of red As the colors fade away from the dusky sunset We roll for the darkness ahead We are old, we are young, we are in this together Vagabonds and children, prisoners forever With pulses a-raging and eyes full of wonder Kicking out behind us again Night time, city beat, the radio is calling The lost and lonely in vain Out here we are running for the wide open spaces The road smell after the rain We are old, we are young, we are in this together Vagabonds and children, prisoners forever With pulses a-raging and eyes full of wonder Kicking out behind us again And watching as a boy alone at the quayside The ships loading cargo in the night Their names all calling to faraway places The years go past, the miles go by And still this childhood romance will not die We are old, we are young, we are in this together (We are old, we are young) Vagabonds and children, prisoners forever (Vagabonds and children) With pulses a-raging and eyes full of wonder (With pulses a-raging) Kicking out behind us again (Kicking out behind us) We are old, we are young, we are in this together Vagabonds and children, prisoners forever With pulses a-raging and eyes full of wonder Kicking out behind us again, hey, hey Hymn of my youth in the late 80s.

Excellent Documentary!!! Please have Rockpalast do your next documentary. Honestly found this Documentary more insightful than NMA's own "Between Dog & Wolf."

Agreed, though I did love "Between Dog & Wolf" too

Between Dog & Wolf was nothing to do with NMA. It was in no way affiliated to the band. They simply allowed their music, footage and interviews to be used.

First heard the band on Full head of Steam compilation with the likes of front242, then back tracked with Ghost of Cain album and a few vinyl albums. Respect to the new model style with unique guitar patterns.
