We, as human beings, are by essence unfinished and many artists say that one never finishes writing, painting, composing etc. a work of art, one just abandonnes it. It seems to me that a large part of the beauty of the Sagrada Familia cathedral is that everyone has been waiting for it to be completed for so long. So much so that a large part of its identity revolves extensively on the massive undertaking that is building it over such a long period of time, over generations. But once the scaffolding and cranes are gone, once the applause at the marvel that it is have withered, then it will only be one more beautiful piece of architecture. As someone who grew up in the 80's and was a teenager in the 90's, I can tell that delayed gratification was much more of a thing back then for a lot of things. Waiting for your song on the radio so you could tape it comes to mind. And as convenient as the world may be today, I sometimes miss having to wait for an answer, the slowness some things could take, and the fact that the world seemed much more silent around me. Anticipation of Christmas morning was always way more fun than Christmas morning.... and don't forget that Grenier spoke the language that coined the term "la petite mort".

Good French accent, and you have just added to my tsundoku. Once I heard you rave about The Plains, I will trust anything you recommend.

I guess this is one of the reasons why I'm a heavy parallel reader. It makes books last longer, haha.

To look forward to pleasure is also a pleasure (not mine, unfortunately). I wonder if you have already read Italo Calvino's Six Memos for the Next Millennium. . . .

Yes, I have! During my Calvino phase. I read it through the eyes of an aspiring fiction writer back then. I should revisit it as a reader.
