I think the review is quite fair, but they can become the best airsoft sidearms ever with some work. We've been using these as the official gun for our team, so let me chime in with some experience from 5+ years on a dozen of these guns: - Replace the inner barrel with a RA-tech 6.01 x 84mm, the bucking for a Maple Leaf Autobot, add a spacer below the hop arm (can be a glued-in I-key or DIY), put a shim between the inner and outer barrel from the front (a cutout from the old bucking works great for this) and shim the space between the outer barrel and the base that holds it to the frame with an alluminum cutout from a soda can to prevent any wobble. That's $30-40 in upgrades, but really turn these things around. With it, the power goes to 300-310 FPS with .20, which puts them on par with most airsoft pistols, and they become the most accurate airsoft GBBP ever, as the barrel is fixed instead of tilting and the hop is a TDC design that's not subject to sidespin. Using .28 they are reaching into the 50m mark and are more accurate than most shooters. I have personally won airsoft IPSC matches with this thing, competing against 100 dudes armed with $1000 hi-capa space guns. - Loctite the screws holding the barrel assembly and the fire control group to the frame, before making a single shot. This will prevent lots of issues, primarily the premature wear of the slide lock and the decocker. Talking of which, you should loctite the screw that actuates the decocker too, but use a lower torque threadlock for that. - Replace the buffer with a urethane bumper glued with 415. This helps function and helps with reliability of the slide lock. - Replace the screws that hold the plug to the main body on each of your mags (as they are super soft) and loctite them to prevent them from walking out. Otherwise, you'll be dealing with incredibly frustrating leaks every other game. - As for spare parts, it will be really useful to have a spare or two for magazine catch leaf spring, as bumping on it can break it. This is by leaps the one part that's most prone to breaking, I think 90% of our guns have had that replaced at one point or another, always because of a bump. Other than that, one of the guns required a spare trigger connector bar, another a sear, and we had to replace the nozzle on two of them, which happened to be the ones that we bought in the US and had the "WE USA Upgraded nozzle" out of the box (the blue nozzle). The original black nozzle never seems to give up, but I would still have a spare one just in case, as with any GBB. - They work with real Makarov holsters btw, which is not something that can be said from any other manufacturer. Strongly recommend Stich Profi's Alfa holsters. With a little bit of work and a few bucks these guns change entirely. They become the most accurate and further-reaching airsoft GBBPs ever, work super-reliably, and are a blast to shoot.
@ExplosiveEnterprises5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! We'll see what we can do to salvage this pistol and the other Makarov in our cohort. To be honest, the accuracy of the gun itself seems fine, it's rather the play between the slide (with fixed sights) and barrel that seems to produce problems with consistent shooting. If you have any ideas there, we're certainly open to suggestions.

I think it's a fair review, out of the box they need work for sure. I ditched the awful hop and barrel for a Maple Leaf one and a TNT hop rubber and now it's very accurate. Locktite the screws as you say and lube the wear points with your magic ptfe grease / oil blend and it's actually a lovely little gun. The biggest irony I find is as it's a replica of a Russian gun it cannot handle cold temperatures like AT ALL. Below 12⁰C it fires maybe twice with less power than you can fart a BB out then simply vents off. At room temp its a snappy little thing. For all it's flaws I still cant help but love it. A 14mm ccw thread adapter paired with a Nuprol Viper silencer makes a cool assassin piece.

As someone who uses a WE AK PMC regularly, I can say that WE does make really good stuff, but they cut corners in major places and do require RA Tech upgrade parts to function past 2000 rounds. The stock internals of their trigger packs are often zinc, and they simply DO NOT hold up to sustained use. However, upgraded WE's outshoot and outperform TMs and VFCs in almost all areas. As someone who recently purchased an SRC USP Tactical after absorbing as much admittedly-limited info as I could about the things, I understand the "clones are often as good as their designs" thing - it being a direct 1:1 clone of the TM USP design to the point that it allegedly tends to be bought by TM USP owners as parts guns (though in hindsight, I wish I'd considered the reason for this being that there aren't a lot of spare parts available from retailers for it (seems to only be some rather specific parts - trigger assembly, magazine gas valves, that sort of thing), especially replacement feed lips as I now have a gas mag that has broken ones after it made a daring bid for freedom onto a tile floor and being a Canadian means my options are at most extremely limited and sketch and more likely nonexistent - without contacting retailers, anyways), it seems to be leagues ahead of previous clones by the company solely because the design they cloned is a lot sturdier than old-school TM and their in-house designs. Sucks that the WE Mak has its issues out of the box, especially since the KSC one is unobtainium despite the trigger problem IIRC being a one-piece fix that could literally be made with shim stock - would be cool to see someone step up to the plate and make a decent Mak or Tok, but for now they really do seem to just fall into the category of poorly-designed iterations of an otherwise-interesting historical pistol, much like the shown WE BHP or the not-shown WE Luger. Edit five months later: adjusted section about spare parts, and also the idea of VFC eventually releasing a Makarov of their own is extremely promising, so I do hope a review of that comes out to follow this one.

as for the grips, i had to learn this the hard way since i have one, they're really fucking stupid, theyre based on the airgun, but are still proprietary, meaning all pmm or baikal grips need some filing/sanding to fit flush, they really couldn't have just used slightly less plastic to accommodate traditional grips. I do really love my makarov, but it is also a piece of shit and there are so many screws i had to thread lock including the one you mentioned, the trigger mechanism screw under the grip, the slide release screw, pretty much every screw eventually comes loose and breaks it, also minor issues as mentioned with accuracy and such, it even started to lock shut because the slide spring was going over and getting stuck behind the hop adjustment, scratching the shit out of the outer barrel and almost breaking it trying to get it off, alas, it is my funny little makarov and i will always love it regardless

The problem with the decocker is that the slide screw and the safety selector itself are mare out of a cheap material which in time will "wear out" and when released, the hammer will actually hit the mag valve slightly but enough for it to release the whole gas in the mag. The screw has a tendency to bend and/or snap while the safety selector will break slightly over time. Replaced them 2 times now and there's no real replacement that would hold over time. Overall, I love this little pea shooter.

A few points to add: 7,62x25 was replaced because it was not a good cartrige for police in cities, because it would easily overpenetrate and hit whatever is behind the suspect. Actually, part of the reason USSR police and special forced would take off their soft body armour (it was primitive) is overpenetration - you had better odds of survival if the bullet made a clean hole through you, compared to surviving internal bleeding from blunt force trauma, as it was also more difficult to detect to take care of. Another reason why Soviets didn't go with already existing .380 is they didn't want allies to be able to use their guns if a coup were to happen and they had to go to war with one of their ex allies - they wanted to be able to use their ammunition, but not the other way around, which is why 9x18 is one way compatible with .380 guns And a fun fact I learned from my dad, that he learned while he was in the military: 9x18 has such low penetration power that it will only kick loose thick plastic bottles, without punching holes in them. One day they had ammo they needed to get rid of so they played "football" with a dish soap bottle and a couple of Makarovs

Two myths in one post, impressive. For anyone considering using 9x18 in a .380 gun, .380 in a 9x18 gun, or any other caliber in any gun not specifically made for it - don't. Use the proper ammunition for the firearm you're using lest you end up on an episode of Brandon Herrera's Darwin Awards videos. And if 9x18 couldn't penetrate a plastic bottle, it wouldn't be able to penetrate a human body. And I assure you, it will absolutely put holes in you.
@Schrodingers_kid5 ай бұрын
@@Malikyte13 Incorrectly correcting other people, huh? I never said you should or that it would be effective to use .380 in 9x18, you're putting words in my mouth. It's fairly common knowledge that 9x18 is bigger so you won't get any kind of seal and accuracy with .380, that's for one. Secondly, it's easier to penetrate a human body that has mass to it and doesn't jump out of the way, isn't it? 9x18 is SLOW, and it needs SPEED to penetrate something that isn't secured. Especially with round bullet that it, conveniently, has. So it kicks the bottle more than it penetrates. Obviously, the bottle would get deformed and compressed over time, making it easier to penetrate. However, all of 120 lbs of your flesh are much heavier than an empty plastic bottle and your flesh doesn't take deformation so kindly.

idk man, from what i heard 9x18 was developed and adopted to allouw the PM to be as simple as possible, by having it at a low enough pressure they where able to have the PM be a simple blowback with no need for a locking mechanism. the Russians realised that you will be carrying it a lot more than you will be shooting it, so they made it compact simple and light (for the time) at the cost of power.

I would love to see a breakdown of the Cybergun SCAR-H (VFC), Its got a hecload of recoil, but some reliability problems (Atleast mine does)

I was literally eyeing this pistol for a rusfor kit in the future, but I guess not. Not sure what GBB pistol would be good now.

How's the WE Mp7? I keep seeing things about it being the only 'true' 1:1 replica, where Umarex, VFC and Elite Force Mp7's are slightly scaled down (and also cost an arm and a leg)
@cillblinton8181Ай бұрын
the vfc is not scaled down. Thats simply not true.

This is still one of my treasured builds with the Mafioso blued steel kit, works very well on green gas despite full steel. Whatever happened to WE....? They used to be the most exciting brand with lots of new innovation, remember the nightmare that was the P90? Super cool design, seals as well as a sieve, but a unique offering many people wanted, they would come up with new GBBRs models few times a year, endless new pistols that beats TM's schedules. Then nothing, for years now we've had nothing from WE. Did VFC steal all their engineers? What happened.
@ExplosiveEnterprises5 ай бұрын
WE actually just revised the P90 (which we'd like to try) and just released a V3 of their AR platform. We've definitely noticed a slowdown in the pace of brand new releases, though.
@facundocorradini5 ай бұрын
looks like they (rightfully) dedicated the last few years to redesigning the lacking features of some of their products rather than developing new ones. They redesigned their 1911, released a complete redesign of their AR platforms, and are now coming out with a revised P90 and SMG-8. Not to mention silent fixes, such as small changes in their G18s that mean they no longer eat nozzles for breakfast, a small change on the tolerance for their SVD magwell which fixes pretty much all of its issues, or the redesigned firing pin and trigger housing for their AKs that prevents two of the most common breakages. It seems someone decided to greatly increase the quality of their lineup rather than coming out with new guns that would die off months after their release. All of this after wasting a couple years making double-barrel everything, of course.

My WE gen 5 G17 has been excellent. The build quality, finish and accuracy are far better than that of your gun. Only negative thing about it is that after about 4000/5000 rounds, the back of the nozzle housing broke.

Thank you for your reviews! They are always interesting to watch. I have WE PMM and МР659К in my collection. Gotta say WE did a garbage job on copying the pistol (it's rather IJ model than PMM). The steel MР659K just feels ten times nicer. I guess there's no good airsoft Makarov on the market right now?
@facundocorradini5 ай бұрын
you mean the shape? the WE PMM resembles the production version of the real PMM, not the IJ
@cypressmarch66325 ай бұрын
@@facundocorradini No, EP said it in the video and got it right. WE Makarov is based on MP654K. MP654K is based on non-lethal IJ pistol, and not on PMM or PM, but looks similar. It got PMM frame and PM slide.

I have it, my first gbb, range and accuracy is not best let's say, but it's job is to keep me alive ine situations where i have to hit my enemy at 1m maybe 3, for this job it's good enough, funny to watch reviev of the gun i have. I bought it for larping, and adding +10 to charisma during negotiations

I once had this thing in the shopping cart already but decided to do some more research and what I found out made me quite angry: This isnt an actual replica of a Makarov PMM. WE (most likely accidentally) replicated the popular Russian Baikal airgun MP-654K. And they got away with it. Its not much of a difference but I cant unsee it now. Edit: I... should have watched to the end first.

in life you rarely get proper closure. and holy shit did i end a chapter on a good note my first gbb was their meu 1911, basically lasted 5000 rounds and took a shit on me, fast forward 2 years later, i was in the market to buy a historic Russian pistol and found like you said, there are no alternatives throughout the picture. I ended up buying a gletcher nagant rifled pellet pistol and I've had nothing by fun with it. If you wanted to give the 1911 fair game you could say i used it in harsh games, but in reality, there were no fields near me in a 100 mile radius and basically bought it to get more familiar with real handguns so i am not totally new to them when i purchase my first. Don't. Gamble. Durability.
