That’s prejudice. My landlord has an accent as well.

The accent would have given me pause and stop me cold .., don’t care what those 2 commenters say .. at the end of the day I would not have been scammed and that’s all that matters to me !!

Back in about 2018 I almost fell for a rental scam. Everything seemed fine until he was asking me to send him money because he’s not in the country right now and he will give me the code for the dropbox. The day previously, we had made plans to meet up for a tour, but then suddenly he goes to London

Why are there so many scammers from India?
@shawj7876 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking of the exact thing but didn’t know how to say it w/o offending anyone. Anyone on the phone who I don’t know personally and has an Indian accent, I speak “French” to them and hang up.

A lot of them speak English. They're probably unlikely to get in trouble...cops are corrupt & there's little incentive for them to go after the scammers anyway. Also, probably a different moral framework... maybe they've been taught we've victimized them somehow.

Renter's Warehouse says they condemn any kind of fraudulent activity. Was that statement necessary? Like we thought you encouraged it.

How do the scammers get the ability to open the lock box, with the correct key to the door???
@Chuck-mm2yp Жыл бұрын
This must be an inside job. Someone has access to the codes from the lock box company. I'm amazed FBI don't investigate but don't care.
@montgomerycamjr Жыл бұрын
The scammer probably pretended to be interested in seeing the house and was given the code as all prospective renters and buyers are. Then, he simply posts a fake ad and provides the same code he was given. Realtors don't change the codes after every tour.

Plausible. However, agents don't typically give out the codes to those boxes. When I sold my house, the agent put a box on the door knob, and opened it via an app on her phone. I told her I needed the code because I needed to get in, and she wouldn't give it to me. But she could unlock it remotely.

What they do that they create fake accounts as property managers and such to gain access to the codes which then they give to prospective victims to seem more legit.

You never do self tours, you don't rent or buy a home without going through the application or approval process, and you don't pay any money until you're approved if renting or buying a house. Now, some owners of homes don't go through an application process when renting their home out, but I would be skeptical if they didn't do an application process.
@b.b.s754510 ай бұрын
Yep.
@MinksRap11 күн бұрын
I don’t like this advice because the application is the biggest scam. You should never fill out or pay for an application before you see the unit and meet with the property manager.
