I used to listen to this on repeat when i was 15-16! I’m 23 now, moved countries, living alone in my own apartment and I suddenly remembered the quote “in all our searching, the only thing that makes this emptiness bearable is each other” and it immediately took me back to this video! It took me a while to find it but as soon as i listened to this, memories of when I was just a teenage girl came flooding back. Things that I didn’t know i remembered. It’s so amazing what music can do. This is definitely going back into one of my playlists! ♥️

It is without hyperbole that I claim "Contact" to be my favourite movie of all time. Hearing that piece of dialogue in the music made for a very wonderful and surreal experience. The speech wasn't recited verbatim, however. The alien says (with emphasis on corrected dialogue): "...You feel so lost, so cut-off, so alone. ONLY YOU'RE NOT. In all our searching, the only thing that makes the emptiness bearable is each other." The omitted piece was incredibly reassuring as it was said with certainty. Almost factually. Which was fine for the movie, I suppose. The omission then would have been a deliberate move to make this musical piece feel ambiguous, if slightly.
