Welcome back; we missed you guys! There is something about seeing a Land Rover with a cloud of dust behind that makes the world right.👍 Mine usually has a cloud of smoke behind. Lol🥴 What year is your Defender?

Wow, what a wonderful surprise! I often think of the 2 of you often. Africa is like that I’m afraid it gets a hold of you & embeds its claws. Welcome back can’t wait to see the next part of your journey. Take care!

Hi guys, good to see you back. During your stay in South Africa, where did you normally overnight? Was it predominantly in camp sites or did you sleep along the road and was that safe, if you did so?

Looks like a wonderful place! Would you at some point discuss the problem with violence and crime in South Africa? I have wanted to see South Africa for years, but this point gives me pause. A friend of mine went there with her daughter, and some bandits bashed in her teeth with the butt of a rifle. I hear of car-jacking, shootings, and more. Is it better to skip by it for now?

I'm South African, I shall advise you. I'm elderly military vet. SADF. It's all about areas. You must always keep focused on your destination. Investigate your daily routes simply by internet and chat to locals. 80% of SA of all races are genuinely good friendly helpful people who shall happily guide you. Fact is we have a hectic murder , rape , crime issue but by being prepared daily and knowing the zone in a reliable vehicle and no sweat. Never stop for wrong people and never take a wrong route. But these are easy identifiable. Townships etc are full of wonderful people but are no go areas. Try not travel in remote areas at night. ATMs best used in shopping malls to shop and draw cash. Book into reasonable accommodation, they all have patrolling guards , alarms, dogs etc. Don't do silly things like run out of fuel or get drunk with locals. Flag down help or ask for help whenever you insecure . Many shall immediately help , we are aware of our surroundings . We shall get you to safety. You do not need to be armed. Propably would get you killed . If you are unfortunately ambushed , don't fight back , talk kindly and give them what they want . Don't challenge or look them in eye. Act submissive. They operate in groups or armed gangs but if everyone calm , they know the police won't really hunt them down if they only rob you but leave you safe. On the positive side , SA is full of beautiful places to see, enjoy . Comical friendly people , amazing food and wine, beautiful wildlife etc etc. Don't be loud and flashy. Be normal . Move with a cool vibe, don't act like a tourist. If possible. Visit for at least 3 months. I promise you a tour and holiday of a life time. An adventure of life. Pleasure , cheers.
