Some advise from someone who lives in an area that gets over a 100 inches of snow in a good year. 1. Emergency Kits in each truck with extra warm blankets, socks, gloves, hats, snacks, etc. 2. Sand bags in the back of truck for weight and traction, plus snow shovel. 3.A lifeline from the house to Terry so you can follow it to get back to the camper. In a real blizzard there is zero visibility. 4. Stock up on staples so you have food and fuel to last for extended periods of time. 5. Never let your gas tank drop below half a tank. 6. Ask your neighbors is they have any advise. Love you both , thanks for taking us along on the journey, we are all cheering for you.

I went back and forth for my place. They can recycle modern asphalt shingles and as long as you keep it clean (aka no leaves in the valleys, etc) they won't burn from forest fire ash/embers. With the amount of snow they get and the pitch of their roof, steel is the way to go. Where I am at I ended up with shingles, my roof won't shed snow easily due to a low pitch.

I totally agree with Linda. Ive live in Duluth Minnesota and I've lived in Alaska , 175 miles west of Fairbanks. We had a survival shelter every mile up the mountain with supplies in each of them. It was 10 miles up to where we lived. We called on a radio at each shelter so that the person up on the mountain knew where we were , in case they needed to come after us. But we had supplies in a bag that we didn't leave without . You should purchase yourselves two winter sleeping bags . Since you have two vehicles keep all you can to survive on for a few days in a huge bag so that you carry them in what ever vehicle you drive. Each person responsible for there own bag. Like some have said put some sand bags in the truck bed. All this could save your life. Please stay safe. I love snow

Absolutely needed-weight in truck bed, metal snow shovel, safety pack (food, water, blankets, extra gas) and for me with our type snow the only way to roll in mtn. snow country is studded snow tires on wheels. Putting chains on and off is a pain-literally frozen hands. That way you can put tires on Nov 1; take them off April 30. Blizzard is horizontal snow and you can’t see Terry from the house. A white out it is no joke. I almost walked off a steep hill because I couldn’t see three feet in front of me. The rope line from Terry to the house is a must. You probably won’t know conditions will be white out until it happens. I hope you rethink a metal roof. I really, really wanted a metal roof with standing seams. Everyone said DON’T DO IT! I heard horror stories...snow taking out decks despite being beefed up to withstand snow sliding off the metal rood, snow taking out great big windows. You have an exceptionally high roof. The weight and impact of snow falling that distance is truly scary. Our house shakes and there is a loud boom when the snow slides off our asphalt roof onto our deck on the one story portion of our house. No wonder a metal roof is so dangerous! With all the challenges snow brings I still love it. I hope you do too years down the road. To everyone who says you don’t need a tractor-they are wrong! We would have gotten one years ago if we could have afforded it. What a relief when we finally got ours! My only hope is you got one big enough and heavy enough to handle the type snow you get. You mentioned you are also getting a snow blower...I hope you mean a walk behind and not just an attachment for your tractor. You need both in true snow country where 4 to 8 inches is a dusting. Enjoy your winter and all your lovely snow. BTW, we have shoveled snow off our roof and to jump off the roof we had to jump up into the pile of snow!

Lol! I drove 2wheel drive pickups with all season radials for years!! We get plenty of snow here in Maine but like the man said "common sense" is key😊. I did drop a tractor trailer tire in the bed of the truck right between the wheel wells. Just enough weight for traction. Also, no sand in truck! If accident, it could come through window and kill!!! Cause it freezes to solid chunk. Drive defensively and use yer noggin😂😂😂.

@@judibess6173 Well I have driven in snow all over the Rocky Mountains and most people who have pick up do use something for weight in the 40 years I have lived out here no one ever had problems with sand in the bed of their trucks I was told about from snow plow operators who plow the high passes

What a beautiful place I can just imagine drinking coffee in a nice warm house with couple feet of snow everywhere. This relaxes me so much I'm tired of the city life people with no patience and too busy to even say hello how are you. Much love and respect to people that sold everything and moved out of the city for a much more independent life style

I'd like to know why dogs love snow so much. They live through their noses, and I wouldn't think snow enhances scent. Maybe that's the point: snow blankets a lot of scents, so it's like a Zen moment for them. (Which they express by running around like maniacs!). I also like the bright ambient indoor glow the tent creates during the day. Wonder what it's like at night, though...

I live in Portland, OR and we don't get much snow, but every now and then we get dumped on. We had a historic snowfall several years ago, shut the whole city down, and I took my Boston Terrier out to play in it. He was ecstatic, just like Frank. We lost our sweet Chet in September and this will be our first Christmas without him in 14 years. Sorry about your Callie. For people like us, seeing Frank romping in the snow is a real tonic and a reminder of the joys we've shared with our own dogs. We love you, Frank.

William Gray : I agree wholeheartedly William! I'm sorry about Chet. Although I'm not yet ready for another pupper in my life, I sure do notice them everywhere and just get so delighted in their joyful antics. What I love about Frank is that he's so calm. Not always barking like a maniac lol. Good eye contact. And just wants to be with his pack. He's truly living his best life.

We put a standing seam metal roof on our place this year. Veery expensive, but well worth it. We got a 45 year guarantee, plus, if you sell the house, (God Forbid!) the roof will pay off then. But best of all, while it's on there, you'll always be secure that your investment's cared for - plus, the BEST part, you'll know you won't be doing the roof again! Also, I am told that the standing seam works well, with solar equipment, should you choose to go that route. Congrats on a great choice!

Agreed. I wanted to put one one on the house we built but my Wife kyboshed the idea because of the noise when it rains, and it rains a lot in Western Oregon. So that was 20 years ago and now I'm looking at my age (59)and the fact the roof will need to be replaced in about 5 years or so.. Oh did I say I HATE doing roofs!..:)
