In my ballet studio, thoss things are ANCIENT. Our head teacher is 60 ish and she says some of those things are older than she is. The little kid dresses are mostly 40 but the adult party scene dresses are old enough to be in museums.

Also, those costumes were beyond old. They literally seemed to be antiques. It was interesting to watch the alterations and mending required for each piece. Just to imagine the stories each costume could hold.. 🤔🤯

I'm sorry, but this girl wasn't lying about the men's dressing room! While working costuming and wardrobe for a season at a ballet company, I found it hilarious about how the women's and men's dressing rooms had completely different atmospheres. The female dancers always had music playing and decorations around their mirrors. It would actually always smell nicer inside, and they would be putting nice smelling fragrances on themselves that had glitter in them (they even would put it on me! 😄🤩🥰). On the other end of the spectrum, the men's dressing rooms remained pretty plain and untouched minus the occasional pieces of clothing strewn around their laundry baskets (instead of making it inside of the basket). Unfortunately, it stunk in there each day. At least their makeup stations remained pretty neat. 😅

The old costumes just reminded me of a dance school near me. I didn't go there but some students from my dance school did work experience while in school there. And that dance school always used the work experience girls to clean out their costume room. They would come to their dance lessons with us and tell us how awful it was because the costumes were used every single school show. so it could be more than once a year and new routines where just created around existing costumes and not even the ones that could be washed like leotards and skirts were ever washed. And they only replaced something if it was broken. So if you didn't fit in a costume they pined you in or you didn't dance. My teacher refused to do anything like that for our shows, so it was more expensive but they were our costumes that we got to keep. So some good memories years later.😅
