Stunning cruise on that wide canal. Navigating the Severn is definitely not on my to do list 😱. Poppy wasn’t interested in a treat, she definitely wanted her ball but praising Hamish always gets her attention 🥰. Perfect music to accompany this vlog too. Xx

It was a very different experience that the narrow canals for sure! I’m not sure if we will ever put the Severn Estuary in our to do list! We’d rather go the long way round to the Kennet & Avon canal. You know Poppy so well to know she will immediately come running the minute she hears anyone praising Hamish and not her, such a little diva 😂❤️

Was following your route in my old Nicholson's South guidebook and spotted the Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust near Patch bridge. We visited there in 1981 on our way to pick up our first narrowboat to cruise the Llangollen and Shroppie. Great memories and the beginning of a long love affair with UK and French canals.

That's why this canal cruising is so interesting - this countryside is often not even very visible by the roadways unless you travel around on small country roads, and mostly people use the highways to get where they are going as fast as possible - entirely missing the best scenery !!! Even the English often do not know how beautiful it can be !

Another peaceful vlog the Sharpness seems more like a river than a canal so wide. Not having to work the swing bridges makes it easy on you. One dog back pack clever. Love the photo of Pete and the dogs. It's sweet to see Hamish carried as well. Being an older boy I'm sure he gets tired. I've heard bad things about the River Severn so that might be the best idea to pass on it for now. Wasn't it just recently in flood? That nice wide canal seems more safe! ❤
@onedaymoreaboard25 күн бұрын
I really need to get that photo framed Dorothy, I love it too! As you can see, Hamish is quite content in that doggie backpack. We said if he could smile, then we are sure he would. The River Severn is prone to bad flooding. I think the worst in recent history was in 2007, and it did flood again recently. This is why we were so keen to get off the rivers before prim flood season. Going out actually into the River Severn Estuary on a narrowboat is only for the very brave, and that's not us! 😊

That canal is so wide - You could do 360s!! Those barges look so lovely - think of all the space! Did you open up the engine and run full throttle? That must be fun. That estuary is BIG water, and looks like a lot of rip tides - not sure I'd want to get on that in a narrowboat. The magic word treat didn't work? Ah the BALL...
@onedaymoreaboard25 күн бұрын
We really could Karen, easily! We have respect for those narrowboaters that choose to venture out into the Severn Estuary, but it's definitely not for us! Way-hey, didn't have to manually change to undubbed, thanks! Another incredibly enjoyable cruise, well underlayed with appropriate sounds. As an Eastmidlander born & bred, I have no idea of the geography of Gloucestershire, so was surprised to discover (on my map), that the hills visible at 6:47 across to the east are not only the Cotswolds, but that bit of them I once spent a very pleasant week at (Woodchester & Nympsfield). I think you are VERY wise not to venture out onto the Severn. That river has a reputation.

Sadly that routes not possible on a 10ft wide beam Christine. The Stratford Upon Avon Canal is a narrow canal with narrow locks. From this map in the link it doesn’t look like there is a way unless you are already on the River Avon or the River Severn or do the trip up the tidal Severn Estuary from Bristol to Sharpness www.lakelandleisureboatsales.co.uk/blog/widebeam-vs-narrowboat-a-summary

The only problem I have with your videos is when poppy and Hamish come on, my little dog attacks the tv screen with his tail wagging, when he sees dogs in real life it's all friendly but on the telly he goes mad. 😂

Your little dog sounds just like Poppy! She is absolutely fixated on looking out for dogs and wildlife on the TV, and even when you think she is sleeping she will suddenly jump up to look! She seems to recognise dogs she knows though, of other boat vlogging friends, and doesn't bark at them! 😂

Fantastic lifestyle. Way better than the tax plantation the U.S has become.

We are definitely happy with our decision to leave Texas and move back to the UK for this much simpler and more affordable lifestyle. Thanks for watching 😊

You are on a canal, and we really do not want music. You go on the cut for quiet, not awful music. I can't stay any longer. Goodbye.

So many of our viewers love the music. You’ve already told us on a previous video that you didn’t like the music and you were leaving so I’m not sure why you came back? Obviously our channel is not for you but thanks for watching and letting us know you’re going again!
