On the 24th of May 1948, the HMT Empire Windrush set sail from Jamacia and arrived at Tilbury dock. The Windrush's arrival has become symbolic of the immigration of Caribbean citizens who came to Britain under the British Nationality Act from 1948 - 1973.
The Windrush Generation rebuilt the war-torn country, making an incredible contribution to the NHS and TFL. They are the foundation of the Britain we know today. Yet many don't even know their names or who they are.
In this documentary, the incredible legacy of the Windrush Generation is explored, focusing on what it was like leaving their home country, what coming to England was like and how they were treated.
This is not my story, it's theirs.
