We arrived in FLORENCE: Thrift Shopping, Ponte Vecchio, and Cool Bars!

I love all your videos, and am impressed with your efforts at accuracy in relating history. Ponte Vecchio used to be where the city’s meat markets were located, and cattle, sheep, and goats, were slaughtered and the offal was tossed in the river; easy and expedient. But the Medici family had a covered walkway built over the bridge to keep them from having to walk among the peasants when they traveled from one palace on one side of the river to another palace on the other side. They were assuring their safety from assassination attempts and from the smelly commoners. The stink from the butcher shops beneath their passageway caused the Medici to outlaw meat markets on the bridge, and ordered that only jewelry shops could now inhabit the bridge.

Sure, the food is relatively inexpensive but lodging is a main expense. Just plan on spending the most on getting there and staying in a comfortable place wherever you are in Europe.
