The fold conversation is so stupid, it depends on what part of the fold we're talking about. Caroline and Sam are talking about the fold LINE and Will is talking about the fold MOVEMENT. Which are two complety separate parts of the fold.

I'm a mathematician and I'd like to say Will is 100% right, whenever you say "folding it vertically" it means only the y-axis will be altered, meaning the x-axis will remain the same size. To fold is to alter the disposition of the body in a specific way, so if you say you'll fold it vertically, it means that alteration will take place vertically, in the same way that moving something vertically is to move it across the y-axis while it presumably remains as it was horizontally
