The second day of our Okeechobee Waterway journey has us finishing the Western section and entering... Lake Okeechobee!
While we decided on coming this way instead of the West Coast to the Florida Keys because of the weather, we were looking forward to today in particular and anchoring in LAKE OKEECHOBEE! Lake Okeechobee (meaning Big Water) is the largest lake in Florida and the second largest Freshwater lake bordered in the USA. The wildlife is incredible, and we are relishing our last few cruises of America's Great Loop. We hope you enjoy!
Thanks for watching!
Cheers from the Loop,
Jennifer and Elliot

ABOUT US
Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
Thank you for following us along our journey!

What an adventure and great video ! ........It was cows. Leaving Moore Haven westbound before sunrise many years ago while on a trawler delivery, the fog became somewhat more dense, leaving visibility to within about fifty feet in all directions. As there were no other vessels anywhere in our vicinity, we maintained a steady seven-eight knot course, enjoying the surreal atmosphere while also attempting to identify a mysterious new sound which seemed to be ahead of us. Slowing a bit and checking around the boat, we soon cut the engine trying to figure out the source. Only a few seconds later and shoreside to starboard, several blurry figures eventually appeared and the mystery noise turned out to be five or six cows just standing around, chewing on some grass and mooing lowly. My brother and I just started laughing, started the engine and waved goodby to the cows of the fog. It's always an adventure... 😎

Wow... I couldn't imagine doing the Loop even once. It requires such special talents. And you could possibly do it again? That is two special people. The Loop is a globally cool thing. I wonder when the Loop was first done... (must have been after World War II).

I'm not sure the first person to complete the Loop. I suppose it would be dependent on some of the canals and probably had to be a sailboat. I bet it was possible in the early to mid-1900's!

Great vid, I live in Port Labelle. Which is halfway between Labelle and Ortona Locks. Travelling up the Caloosahatchee can be a time warp back to how Florida was 50 years ago. Lake Okeechobee is truly a diamond in the rough and is absolutely filled with beauty and wildlife. Love seeing you peeps enjoying life the way it was meant to be. Kind Regards..

Exciting that the finish is coming up. Sad you missed a night at Roland Martin marina -- great stop, a bit honky tonk, an open restaurant. However, I strongly doubt there is anything on the menu you would eat -- kinda cheeseburger or cheeseburger joint as I remember from two stops several years ago. I used make the run from Stuart to the locks often in my runabout but stopped ever since discharges from Lake Okeechobee into the St. Lucie River have filled the waterway to Stuart with horrible toxic algae and toxins.

That's unfortunate regarding the algea and toxins, hopefully something is being done about it!

I'm not sure what you mean, rough water isn't the only interesting thing about what? and hear ourselves, of course we hear ourselves lol and no, people who haven't boated haven't survived chop! Also, some people underestimate the weather and that can be dangerous.

@@SchoandJo It just seemed that your only concern was the rough water. We take our 42 Grand Banks thru all types of water. Like the weather it will change. I was glad you made it thru that area without issue. I have heard there is a lot of shoaling and can be problematic. Bon voyage.
