Let me tell you my experience with coin dealers. Not all but I would say 90%. I invest in real estate but had a hobby of collecting coins. I had some beautiful coins for example, high grade SS Central America, 1907 high relief 20 dollar gold in an ms grade, civil war certified gold, etc. I needed to raise cash for a real estate purchase so I went to a coin show. Every dealer there and I mean everyone found fault with my coins even in PCGS and NGC holders. They found spots where there were no spots, and there was this favorite saying " yeah, but it's a low grade MS65." Crap like that. I had to sell to raise cash. It worked out in the end as the equity in my real estate deal increased a lot more than the loss I took on the coins. So now I collect GENERIC gold and silver. I can see the buy/sell price on a daily basis. I am in control , not at the mercy of unethical dealers. I still collect coins I like but not with the expectation of profit. To me coin dealers are in the same category of used car dealers.

I inherited my grandmother's collection. I took it to a dealer to ask what they would pay for it. They offered 10% of what they would sell it for. I didn't intend to sell it but was very disappointed in their offer. I'll never sell to coin shop.

I'll give you a number you may not know. Eighty Five Percent, that is the percentage of Morgan Dollars in the world that have been cleaned. Morgan's are over 100 years old. And the rule up until 1998 was ALL SILVER MUST BE CLEANED (study Leroy Van Allen). Leaving your silver dirty and tarnished is relatively new in the history of coins. 85% Cleaned Already!

It amazes me how a raw coin that is definetly gem raw goes from an under a $100 coin raw to a several hundred dollar coin once in plastic. With over 100 years of sorting and trading hands its very hard to find raw coins worth having slabbed. Ive learned the hard way that its worth the premium to buy an already slabbed coin. The only exception would be a fresh raw deal. Deals like that are usually easy to spot after looking at a few coins. So many millions of coins have been slabbed by now.

If the BU was cleaned, put a good coat of Rembrandt Plus on it and set it in the Sun Light for about 4 hours, do both sides. Repeat as needed until hairline brush stroke polish marks are gone. Then rinse it for about 5 minutes, rinse the side reeds very well. If it needs any polishing, then try the Rembrandt first, it's polish is Plastic Fibers and it's cleaner is Fluoride, a non-harsh, non-grossly, compound that can be amplified by applying Light. Or use MS70 from your LCS (dry cleaning fluid), for instructions on this, watch Rocky's Rambling's Channel. Remember rinse rinse and rinse one more time. You may need to Brush the Luster, use Red Rouge, Do Not Work Against The Grain Of The Original Basining Polish, working against the grain will remove the Luster.

Great tip about using the 7x Bausch n laumb which is what I use and how to efficiently sort through raws. Many pit falls here which I’ve become great at weeding out although the occasional very lightly cleaned, wheel mark or something like that still bangs me here n there

You should be honest with people. PCGS does not say Cleaned or Polished. PCGS says Harshly Cleaned or Grossly Polished. Look it up sect 92. It is okay to clean coins and polish coins, if it is done right. And the coin is not already damaged.

Plus figure in like AU with graffiti or AU with counterstamps I've got a 1890 morgan with small N.S. and comp on coin it's small counterstamp I love it because I think it was a worker or maybe one of the owners of Norfolk southern railroads which I never will sell so trying to price coins like that are hard plus add on errors etc

So I went to a coin shop with 11 peace dollars. The guy didn’t even look at them closely. He gave me the silver price for each. Isn’t each coin worth different prices?

Yes, but not a large variance in price if they were all common dates. Better dates sure can be a better/different price.

None are cleaned sitting in bags for fifty years. Bought all as very fine . But some look better the 1991, etc the 1900 or before all look in the very fine but the eye can deceive.

Nice video...I think you can skip the white board part. That will confuse most watchers and is not needed. Just show the coins and what you think they would retail for is more informative versus the hypothetical stuff you learned in college. :)

Everything we discussed is practical and useful in regards to how we run our coin business. It all comes down to systems and processes to ensure we succeed and hopefully others do also. Sharing silver dollars is one thing but setting up the deal can be much more important for our viewers. I appreciate the comment.

if BU is MS and MS means state of the coin new at the mint, why would it even be dirty in the first place. Coins are not dirty at the Mint, dirty coins comes from circulation. But I will give this advice, do not let Jimmy's Mom clean your Silver Dollar, she scratched mine. I think she needs glasses. And a flashlight.

Are rim dings detrimental when grading a coin? 🪙 I have a brilliant Morgan but is has some rim issues on the reverse but on the very edge doesn’t not distract at all… Just curious. Thanks!
