We fall in love and put an offer on a Pacific Seacraft 40. Our offer is accepted, so all that’s left to secure our new boat is a survey, sea trial and rig inspection. We’re super nervous but excited to take what could be our new home out on the water and test all of it’s systems. After the survey we encounter some setbacks which make us question if the deal will go through or if we’ll have to start right back at square one on our search for Atticus II.

Alternator brushes stick when they are on their way out. Same thing happened with Taylor's Travels recently. Most people would replace with an upgraded one so that you're sure of it's reliability and performance. Thank you for including us in your lives. We all appreciate it. Much love from Cornwall, UK

Alternator are pretty reliable, most common issues are brushes, bearings and diode packs. All inexpensive and easy to replace. But if you’ve got lots of money go for an $800 Balmar. I prefer a Delco that you can source parts worldwide.
@wjhann4836
@wjhann4836 3 жыл бұрын
The brushes are a major matter - yes. Perhaps there may even be an old mechanical regulator that is stuck. If that's the case I would recommend to replace the regulator by a modern from Stearling or Mastervolt - these are amazing. And with such a modern regulator you do a step towards a lithium system. If there was an newer alternator than the motor: I heard that modern alternators need high rpm (some 6000) - much more than a normal diesel engine. So there should be a speed transformation via belt rims. Perhaps a new larger pulley might improve a lot.

Congratulations guys. The long dedication and hours you put into Atticus to achieve your dreams landed you here. It has been great following your journey. I have always wished Atticus was a better boat for you. Especially watching the hard work, money, tears, and time you invested. From your first video to now. It was hard living, but it got you here. I am very happy Atticus II is the boat. That sadly Atticus could never be for you. It makes me very happy to see you in a boat that now reflects your hard work and diligence. Congratulations again. I love to see dreams come true.

Very elegant boat i hope it provided you wirh all that you need ro travel the world. Oit of curiosity where did you get the money? . We are thinking of building a catamaran but we don't have the money yet. We hooe you will consoder sailing to usla mujeres again and doind a meet and greet so we can meet you and see your gorgeous boat in person. Wishing you many best regards and fun on the water and think good and well before raising children on a sailboat. Who will help with passages. I saw a video of sv Delos where kazza seemed pretty bummed out and i admired her honesty when she said everything she enjoyed about sailing prior to having her baby she no longer enjoys. I admired her honesty and you would do well to take heed to what she said. I know she recanted becuase i think she had to. She didnt want to come off negative about having her baby. Bryan always looks exhuasted becuase he has to do all the navigating while she cares for the nugget. I guess if you have a third person on board who can help share the shift on passages or help with a baby that helps a great deal but if not how will you manage? Have you considered what will happen if you have a special need kid? Its something to think about long and hard. And eventually when your child grows up, is going to need friends, and social interacrion, i think all around sailing is very challenging at times and with a child on board will add to those challenges. Not to mention financial aspect Speaking from experience the illusion of having children is different from actually raising them. But we wish you the very best and cant wait to see you happy onboard in your new home. Its gorgeous

The alternator has brushes, when an alternator goes “intermittent”, it usually means that it’s due for bearings and brushes. No big deal. I always try to put the largest, most capable alternator on board. Beautiful boat!
@mikestone234
@mikestone234 3 жыл бұрын
@Tim Sawyer dude.......you rebutted me, by agreeing? Yes, alternators have brushes.....that run on “slip-rings”. A DC motor has a “Commentator”. Either way, it’s a graphite composite that makes an electrical connection on a moving surface,(brushes).....thus, why they need to be replaced periodically, along with bearings.
@anthonygillesse7242
@anthonygillesse7242 3 жыл бұрын
Mike your right on the money, alternators have brushes and if they are not worn the springs that apply pressure to the brushes corrode in a salt water environment. Just love people that don’t know what their talking about. Good to know your systems when your stuck somewhere remote and West Marine isn’t around the corner
@anthonygillesse7242
@anthonygillesse7242 3 жыл бұрын
@tim sayer The brushes on the slip ring determines your output. Output is determined by voltage applied to the brushes by the voltage regulator low voltage low output higher voltage more output. I’m always amazed that people throw gear out that just need a little attention, I think they call it more money than brains. Lots of information out there to fix stuff.

I would like to say as someone who just sold their house and is moving in 5 weeks. 1.) it is NOT irrational to be anxious when you do not hear back from a buy for a period of 24 hours and it is ok to invest your heart into something. 2.) NOT trying to cr*p on anyone's agent or broker, BUT there should be a bit more communication in my experience. Just a "hey, working with the seller and they are busy" helps to calm nerves It is your future home and nerves, anxiety and tiredness are definitely going to be there. Love you guys are your channel!

Inverter and Alternator? that's all? that's background noise. Everyone knows Yanmar stock alternators are shit. Lower the price a little and get the Balmar. Inverter was probably old and lame anyway. Replace with something LiFePO capable for the future and the Balmar and regulator will also be LiFePO friendly. Good to see Bernie again in his element. You bought one! Yeh! Congrats! Very pretty boat! From what I saw you had inconsistent results from the charging system, alternator..or something else. Alternators should charge at any rpm over idle, very easy to test right at source. Should/must be consistent. Salt air eats alternators. If its not consistent replace it. That's a fairly inexpensive part and easy to swap out. We always carried a replacement on board, of course along with belts. Again congrats! You must be happy. Like they say the 2 happiest days in a boat owners is the day you buy it......

I spent many summers down Indian Neck in Branford. It's where my 15 year old girlfriend lives. She's 66 now but will always be that 15 year old beauty to me. When you get to the Pacific be looking for the Green Flash.

I love survey and seatrial days. Looks like you had a couple good guys to help with that (I’ve had useless surveyors before). Especially nice when they are agreeable to help educate as they go thru the systems. Obviously the delay was a negotiating tactic. Very pleased for yall (I predicted the final sale price of $205k about 1/2 way thru 🤔😉). I think you got a great boat / home at a fair price. Really happy for you ⛵️

Congratulations. Not only is it your new home, but you have piece of mind that it's a solid vessel with good bones to carry you as far as you wish to go.

Congrats on your New "Brake Out Another Thousand" (Boat). From what i could see is youe batteries are 4 years old. So you need new ones. Your rigger said the rigg was over 22 years old. So your insurance are going to have you put New on. That alone is about 8 to 10k. And if you are having electric troubles who knows much that can be. But it is a good looking Boat. And I hope all goes well .And I am looking forward to seeing ya'll back on the water and sailing again. Ooo and one of the sails looked a bit bad.

I really enjoyed seeing Branford from a drone. Back in the 50’s our family rented my cousin’s cottage for 2 weeks in July. We had a small sloop. A Blue Jay which we enjoyed sailing around the harbor and on a good day we could make it all the way out to “Cow and Calf”
