That would have came with a 430 CID I think. Not a very impressive engine, terrible gas millage I don't remember seeing one with even a four barrel carb from the factory. My suggestion would be a 460 or a new Godzilla and a 10 speed. I'm a bit of a purest so I would stay with a Ford engine that's just who I am. I worked at a company called Dallas Smith in the summer of 62 between 8th grade and freshmen year. We would take new cars from the trains that transported new cars here to Phoenix. What a blast I had that summer, we worked on a line that would wash the protective coatings from all makes of cars and trucks. We had a detail shop cleaning up everything. We even did undercoating at the shop. We made the new cars look new before delivering them to the correct dealers around town. I would like to see this restored to new condition. A real purest would rebuild the 430 to keep it numbers matching for the most value.

The crazed wood is because it leaks and got really humid inside many times. They are thin veneers glued on stainless steel and you can get replacements if you really restore it. You can get all kinds of NOS and replacement parts for almost everything including the engine and complete stainless exhaust systems, but a real restoration will go into the tens of thousands. Those are original 14" wheels and the tallest modern radials are lower than the original tires. There is about one guy in the country who understands the roof mechanism which uses at least a dozen relays, several motors and a mile of wiring.

Hi Brad. Nice find with the car. Please don’t listen to some of these guys saying it’s a 351, 461, blah blah blah. Here’s the scoop. 61-65 the LC were equipped with a 430 BB MEL (early years were 2 brl. 63-65ish it went to a 4 brl). 66-68ish they transitioned to the 462 (basically the same as the 430). In 69, they introduced the 460. Any of those engines will drop right in with zero mods. The guy claiming you can get that engine rebuilt for 2k. 🤣🤣 fat chance in hell pal. Ain’t gonna happen. 2k will probably get you the block reworked and maybe the lower half. Brad, from experience, some of the engine parts reproduced to rebuild these engines are garbage China reproduction. I’m sorry, but that’s fact. You’ll spend probably 4-6k rebuilding it and hope it last you 6-12 months. The transmission’s on these cars are notorious for leaking and failing. If you power with simplicity, the LS is your friend. I know of numerous companies making kits that allow you to drop an LS in with zero mods to the actual car. However, if you want it to sit “frame” or close to it/ aired out. You want to tunnel the rear most section. I can explain in detail later. A Yote or Zilla will result in heavy mods of crossmember and trans mount. Including having to re-tunnel the car. Until you decide, Rotella motet oil is your friend because it has zinc. Type F trans fluid for trans, power steering, and technically your convertible top as well. The wipers work off your PS pump, so don’t run it dry and try not to turn the wheels without the car running, or you can blow the seals on the ps pump. Lastly, when warming the car up, DO NOT leave the car unattended. They are well known for popping into reverse on their own. The cad will take off or worse yet, run any kid over that may be playing behind it. Best of luck. Reach out if you have questions. I’ve worked on more Lincoln’s then I’d care to admit. I have sources for you for numerous rebuilt or replacement parts if needed. They’re fun cars, but get Hell of expensive really quick. Watch the top, when it’s pulling out of the trunk, it’s pulling the equivalent of 2 tons of force. They are hella heavy. Check out our page on IG @TheRattys or DM me on IG @Papis_65. We kinda know a thing or 2. Enjoy.

That's worth way more than $20K, like dad said , cleaned up $40K. Non AC? It's a convertible!! No need for AC. It is a MEL 430 2 barrel. LS swap is easiest and no frame mods. Coyote is do able $$$, a couple people are in the middle of trying Godzillas, big job, both require cutting out the crossmember in the engine compartment. Deck lids all rust, even on a well cared for car, new one worth $3k. Find someone that knows the convertible tops, so many idiosyncrasies. Before he retired, The Lincoln man, John Cashman, used to travel and repair them, $2500 first 8hr day (minimum) $250/hr second day...plus parts. Have fun.

Probably knocking because is running unleaded fuel. That vintage cars used leaded fuel. You can use an additive to get rid of it or retard the timing until is gone but then you'll lose power. It also seems to have either a stuck or burnt intake valve because it's spitting compression out the carb.

@aloysiusbelisarius9992 Жыл бұрын
@@madkidd00000007 Having experience with these cars, I have to disagree with the "suck" assessment. That drivetrain is rooted in high performance, however tuned down a bit for luxury-car use...which is more than can be said about engines today (save maybe for Hemis) which are plain rollers on steroids and not really meant to last half of forever. There is hardly anything that matches the durability of a clap-door Lincoln's drive train. The one detail that can, however, warrant the assessment of "suck" is the two-barrel carburetor installed in this year. A 4-barrel would have been better, which was why they changed that the following year. Granted, the components aren't quite so beefy as the ones used starting in '66, but they were enough to propel the heaviest-built cars in America to triple digits (not that there is any place in America aside from closed race tracks where one would even use such speeds).

I've followed these cars for over 30 years, and I own a '63 sedan. To find an original '62 convertible in this condition is a really good deal and a rare opportunity. Having said that, I know the restomod market for these is pretty hot, but they're only original once and original ones are disappearing. I would get this in shape and keep it original, then use the money to restomod something that's already been worked. Originality is very very valuable. It's your car, but it would be hard to see this car lose its original quality. The engine is a 430 MEL, by the way. MEL stands for Mercury Edsel Lincoln. This engine replaced the old Y Blocks used in the Lincolns of the 50's.

Awesome rare car. Keep that in mind rare car. Do not make something out of it, that it is not meant to be. Rare car is already enough of a good thing. Keep it as original as possible, old school of course a few upgrades are okay like paint, carpet, disk brakes maybe, use factory or original parts. Go through engine completely, maybe electronic ignition maybe , AC maybe, if you can find factory piece. But all original would be better. Those are my thoughts, since you guys asked to put individual thoughts in comments. May you find Harmony, respectfully Sven.

Sell those wheels you got and use the money to help restore it to ORIGINAL. Just fix the drivetrain issues and keep it original. This was one of the most beautiful cars ever designed and has a definite mystique that goes with it. Customizing it will please a few people but make most people cringe at seeing what you did to a classic. "Customizing" it would be like putting lipstick, purple spiked hair, tattoos and ghetto bling on the Mona Lisa. Restored they are worth a lot of money, too -- especially the convertible!!.
