I've dailyed a 111R for 15 years in the UK and crashed it loads. Your Exige looks in decent shape. You'll have her running in no time. InoKinetic, Gregs Race Parts are both great Lotus suppliers in the US. I've used them both and have never been let down.

Fabulous Exige Lotus, what a great project!
@drew6992 жыл бұрын
It’s a great car! Whole rear clam will come off if needed. Mirrors are from a BL mini metro. Rear wheel arch reflectors have no power. You can buy a supercharger kit from Lotus. The MOST important issue is to check the suspension hanging points on the aluminium chassis to see if they are bent. If they are damaged, bonding in new extrusions is a very specialist job. Don’t change the wheel sizes - Lotus is a precision tool and any changes will compromise the handling that Lotus are so renown for. Don’t jack the car up anywhere except where the stickers are on the bottom of the chassis rails. Good luck gents! Enjoy!

I think you guys will be pleasantly surprised with this pocket rocket.. I had one and its basically a little go cart I think you'll enjoy it, can't wait to see the final product, best of luck with the build all the best from the UK...

Fully agree.. this will be a cool series, BTW those are Lotus wheels and when they will swap them the total value of the car will also drop, so in my opinion they should just replace them with similar ones specially if they have all 4 center caps with Lotus emblems.

The button on the right of the steering column dims the gauge cluster lights if you hold it down. If you just bump it, it resets the trip odometer. I have 70,000+ miles on on my '05 Elise with lots of aftermarket equipment from BOE (REV400 supercharger, high-flow radiators and fuel pump, two-piece slotted rotors, lightweight exhaust, clam hinge and the list goes on :)) Hit the fuel cut-off button-the big black rubber button in the engine bay on the left side near the firewall and that Yamaha-designed 2ZZ-GE engine will fire right up. All the panels are removable and repairable. As long as the suspension pick up points aren't ripped from the aluminum tub (which is the chassis), you should be OK. Have fun!

The tunnels behind each rear wheel aren't for brake cooling, rather they are ground effects that work with the flat bottom to add downforce at speed. Make sure to get heat into the engine properly as cam wiping can be an issue with these. I make sure not to rev mine much over 4000 rpms until the engine temp has been at 190 deg for at least 20 minutes. It was designed to be driven like a motorcycle/sport bike thus most fun when revved - you really can feel the extra power when the cam profile changes a little over 6000 rpm. Also watch the rear end as they can get light if one lifts/panics mid way in a corner - thus the semi-joking LOTUS acronym of "Lift Off Throttle U Spin. Try some track or parking lot time practicing trail braking and adding power earlier on exit to help. Once you drive it, if you love cars you will be hooked. Feedback of the road through the steering wheel is the best I've experienced. I like this better than the Vettes, 911 turbo, Jags, and BMWs I've driven. I could afford a new Z06 , but a manual tranny is a must and I would rather keep my Lotus. Even as an almost 65 year old who isn't as limber as you young guys, I'm never selling mine and eventually my kids will have to lift me in and take me out for a ride. I'll crawl into it for years if needed because once in, the Lotus grin hits and all the inconveniences wash away. I wouldn't daily drive it as my only car though some limber folks have. I get close to 30 mpg, oil changes since done by me make running costs cheap so it could be the best sports car deal around with its dependability and often increasing value. If you want power, there are bolt on supercharger kits that are great. But I kept mine stock as frankly it is still pretty quick and I wanted the durabiliy the Toyota based 4 cylinder brings to this car. If you haven't driven one before, be prepared for something truly special; you may want to keep this one. Good luck with your build !
@jasonnelson66242 жыл бұрын
Definitely need to add boost. I went supercharger but if I could do it again I'd go turbo. But trans syncros won't like added power. Mostly 1st to 2nd will grind.

I think it has an inertia switch that cuts fuel pump off if it’s involved in an accident. The fuel pump inertia switch will reset if there is a sudden jolt to the car. This is a safety feature. The fuel system is pressurized by the electric fuel pump. In the event of an accident, the fuel pump is turned off to prevent a fire. Sometimes this switch is reset by a sudden jolt to the car, such as hitting a curb or large object with some force. Check this switch if your car will not start after such an event. It is located on the left side of the engine bay, near the edge and below and forward of the windshield washer bottle. location of fuel switch

This will be a fun build, keep up the great work guys. Also, those are side marker lights, not 'blinkers'. They are powered, and come on with the headlights. They are at all four corners, it's the law in the US. Please do not delete them.

The Lotus is a cool car but hold on to your shorts when buying parts for it. My sister had one for a couple years until the price of ownership reared it's ugly head. Really enjoying the builds guys!
@stephenricketts77642 жыл бұрын
If that has been used on the track then it will have a kill switch somewhere. Not sure if that battery is powerful enough though? I doubt that you will need anymore power, Lotus in general are known to be quick. Unless of course you want to end up in a hedge? Some if not all of the panels can be removed to work on them. Though I have not worked on these they do have an inner frame which is the main strength. Look forward to more on this one.👍👍

There is an inertia fuel cut off on the LH side of the engine bay. Mounted with 2 screws it has a square body with a round top that is pushed in to reset. Guarantee this has tripped if the car has had any sort of bump. When built you will just LOVE the performance. The later Exige had a V6 so the chassis is more than capable. ENJOY!

You had better hope that the tub isn’t damaged at the suspension attachment points. It’s not repairable (properly). The tub weighs 150 lbs and is made of bonded(glued) extruded aluminum. If it’s damaged the only fix is a replacement tub. These cars are great but they have been known to be totaled by running over a 2x4 on the highway
