Bonjour to you from a very sunny Normandy the blossom is on the trees and we are feeling very happy at the farmhouse on our homestead ...
The kitchen details have been finalised by us and Budo builds the butler sink cabinet and Tracy is busy painting and we reveal the colour of the kitchen and the hardware we will be using on the cabinets and also the venetian window is finished and Tracy is busy painting the window.

Spot on with Farrow & Ball paints, our 1750 Grade II listed house in Malvern was all painted with F&B paints. Stunning cabinet with Belfast sink. We would say recess the base board would be annoying having outside of unit keep kicking it. Another excellent video. Have a lovely weekend both enjoy the sunshine!

Loving your attention to details throughout your renovation. The stone wall pointing is so awesome and the kitchen stonewall has amazing coloured stones that should inspire some lovely colour choices in that huge kitchen space. A suggestion for the Venetian window sides would it be possible for a small pullout latch to keep it up or a pin to hold it up be feasible so Tracy doesn't have to pull out a block to hold it up? If that makes sense. Keep up the good work and get those tiles done as I would hate to see water damage in that awesome space. Good luck and all the best.

My suggestion would be for drawers not cupboards in the lower cabinets. I love the idea of no kickboards or skirting boards in the cabinetry. I love the idea of being able to vacuum, mop and hand scrub under the cabinets regularly. This way you can battle the natural infestations ie rats, mice, cockroaches more easily. Unfortunately they love hiding in dark, quiet places.

Absolutely love the cabinet and the sink is exactly what a farmhouse needs. We have an old cast iron sink covered with porcelain we reclaimed from a house my cousin was taking down. We built a cabinet and it’s outside under our outdoor cooking area. We use to wash our vegetables and such in from the garden. It has a long side to drain stuff on it is so convenient. I’m so looking forward to seeing y’all complete your kitchen 🥰 I know you’re both excited 👍👍👍

I’d run the skirting underneath and have LEDs under there as well. This will give you light at three levels; top, middle and lower. The LEDs could act as night lights.

I think the indoor window frames, door frame and doors in the kitchen need to be the same colour as the cabinetry. Bring the white into the kitchen with the crockery and fabrics instead.

Beautiful work and color for the cabinets. Personally I need a toe setback area for standing at the counters and sink. Also, the sink looks so low to me. I would have to be in a bent over position to wash things and getting items off the bottom of the sink.

Lovely work...I love Farrow & Ball as well, this might sound like sacrilege but their base is so pigment-heavy I don't have to add very much to tinker w/ the colors to get the precise tone I want.:-) Unfortunately, it is very expensive in US, so another brand-alternative (cheaper) is Benjamin Moore (there is a distributor in Paris).

Totally agree with you on the paint. I use Farrow and Ball and Little Greene both have brilliant pigmentation and are lovely to paint with. Love the bone colour and the cabinet design. My preference by a smidge is Little Greene. It is so exciting for you. ❤

Hi Sue thank you yes little green is a good paint but we don't think they have got the old authentic colours like farrow and ball and I think F&B have slightly more pigment in there paint but i do know from experience that most of the people i worked for in the conservation world always went for the F&B 🌺🥰

Hi I always used F&B but after I found the wood paint had quite a high sheen I found Little Green had lower sheen and I have heard good remarks so I have just bought some to keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞

I think it's absolutely amazing to be able to make things like these beautiful windows and cabinets from scratch. Fascinating to watch. I've been a F&B paint fan for many years too - still have one of their hand-painted swatch card book from the 1990s. Sadly, many colours have disappeared since then.

When I made my kitchen units I inset the kicker panel, I thought about a face skirting but decided inset looked better. Also bits of scrap crumbs are a nuisance to clean out of the moulding. I made mine pretty much the same as you have with the exception of using birch faced ply for the carcase. Tulip wood for the face frames fixed to the carcase with pocket screws. Painted French grey. Your kitchen will look fabulous, look forward to seeing it.

Your window is lovely and so well made (of course, made by Budo). And, wow, that sink cabinet! Beyond gorgeous! I love the details you put in (the beading and the choice of panel moulding), not too over the top. And I simply adore that colour! So much nicer and warmer than a stark white. You can’t go wrong with Farrow and Ball paint. Now, for the skirting board underneath the sink unit, I would inset it, simply for practical reasons. When you’re at the sink, or any cabinet really, you need that extra little room for your toes (hence the term toe kick). Otherwise, you would always have to slightly stand back from the cabinet and it would eventually put a strain on your back. You’d also scuff the skirting board over time. Not sure if putting in the board with the profile would be visible. That’s really up to you to decide. But I definitely recommend doing a toe kick. Can’t wait to see the rest of the kitchen, but first things first. Finishing the outside with the roof tiles, Veluxes etc., is understandably the priority right now, securing the space and making it really watertight and finished. We’re patient 😊 we can wait for the rest of the kitchen. We’ll enjoy watching you do the outside finishes. Again, well done you two! You are simply amazing at what you do! (Btw, Tracy, you were looking lovely in your teal coloured top! That’s the colour I would choose to complement the F&B Bone colour 😉 Sending you a hearty congratulations on all the work done so far. Hi great windows and cabinet. Regarding the outer windows I have similar ones and use commercial brass plates. They are notched, simply lift the window and rotate the plate lowering the window, gravity holds it. If interested I can send the details. Regards

On the side windows, you could have in the side a small pivoted stop that comes out. You lift the window above it, it pops out. Then you lower the window and it stops open. To close the window, move it to one side and the window passes to go down. No need for a bit that gets lost.
