Bonjour à tous,
This week marks one year on since Tracy arrived at the cottage, so to mark this special occasion we take a look back at the renovations and what has been achieve in this short time. From creating new dormer windows, to fitting a bargain staircase, digging out the floors, and making this abandoned building look like a home.

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

I am from India and I always find such transformations so incredible. Its hard for me to imagine renovating an entire house from scratch, esp because we rely on getting labour to fix even the tiniest of things. I dont know if its because its cheaper to hire labour for piecemeal jobs or entire renovations, or that we lack knowledge, or getting all of the requisite tools without shelling out money that doesn't justify the cost, we urban indians just cannot imagine taking up such projects. Hence, its even more fascinating to see how a small family puts in their heart into a shell of a house and turns it into a home! There's so much love in this place, and it is so, so beautiful!!

same question here 😅. But I'm assuming they must be professional builders and finally they put their skills for something of their own. The man trained his wife or maybe they were in the same profession and eventually they married and the kid learnt from seeing what their parents were doing.

Atleast try to do what you can. It's fun planning how to design and decorate your own house. My hubby was always busy on his work so i'm the one who paints and puts on wallpapers. I 'DIY' some of our decors and furnitures and trust me,it's so fulfilling.

So true! We have lack of knowledge, lack of equipments and lack of time. But atleast observing and researching on own helps when interacting with masons or labourers or plumbers etc. My mother in her childhood used to be very much involved when her house was getting built. Which is now useful to us whenever there is some issue in the house. Although she won't do it herself but atleast she's there to understand what the other person saying or to convey her thoughts and measures in order to get things fixed.

The transformation that you’ve achieved in a little over a year is mind blowing. Tony and Tracy, you’re incredibly inspiring, and I’ve grown to admire you both so much, in the short time I’ve been following your progress (binge watching, because I can’t get enough of you all). You’re both so humble, and your modesty should not prevent you from being so very proud of yourselves, and of what you’ve created from a very broken canvas. Working my way through your journey after seeing this video. 🙂 You asked in earlier episode suggestions for usages of otbuildings. If you live near national park, and in "horse country" addapting the big barn to letting stables could be usages. You seem to have good road access. The barn wouldn't need much alteration and you could evem have accommodation. All the best and enjoying your videos.

We started to follow projects like this about abandoned farm restoration over two year ago. We were so inspired by these kind of content that we decided to start our own abandoned farm restoration project. In September 2022 we bought a piece of land in Spain that has a beautiful stone house “in bad condition” that will be restored later this year. We started to share our journey in the hope to inspire others, as we were inspired. We are very grateful for you guys for sharing your journey with us. Thank you

Bringing life back into an old structure with history has to be so very satisfying! WOW! The transformation is absolutely amazing! WONDERFUL! I cannot imagine the hard work involved here, day to day! But you apparently could visualize what it would take to breathe life back into this structure! What an amazing experience for all of you, even the smallest member of the crew..BRAVO!
