My parents separated when I was 10, but they raised me as co-parents and best friends. They continued to love each other platonically, and I never felt any animosity between the two of them. I really hope you guys are able to have a future like that, with Sophie and Hayes knowing that the four of you are still a family. I've been through a separation and then divorce, and shared the house with my ex husband for a few months before I had the chance to move out. It can certainly be challenging and moving on without someone you've had as your partner for so long can be hurtful. Not that I should be or that you should care at all, but I'm so so proud of you, and I admire you so much. As much as this sucks, I'm honored to watch you be so grown up about this hole thing... Break ups are so hard, specially when you have kids together and a family project, but you seem to be dealing with it with so much grace. Hope you don't see this as a failure cause it's not... look at everything you've achieved. You did exactly the opposite. It's so brave to admit that you grew apart (really so probable considering the age you started dating) and to know when to stop, instead of forcing something and end up probably hating eachother. That's not healthy, for you or the kids... Instead of seeing their parents fighting and hating each other, they will learn that is ok for thing to not go as planed, and that's life. It's ok to choose happiness, even if it doesn't look as expected. And break ups doesn't need to be bad or hugly, doesn't even have to be the end of something... but a transformation, an improvement. I had a feeling this was what was going on, no shame in it at all! You are both real people with lives away from social media and a lot of people forget that. As a bonus parent to a little boy with my partner, I can honestly say you are doing the best thing for them and yourselves! Staying together just for them could have caused a lot of trauma for them in the future.
