This is absolutely BRILLIANT. This has to be one of the nicest looking and best-conceived designs I've ever seen. I love how you've preserved the original lines of the car. Perfectly functional, but so tasteful and understated compared to the common approach (in the U.S. at least) of replacing the entire bumper cover with steel tubes (which ends up revealing a bunch of ugly stuff that's normally hidden). I also love how snugly everything fits right up against your rear hatch rather than hanging several inches out as do many of the other solutions I've seen. Wow. Really amazingly nice work. My only question: I saw the lock on the jerry can, but any sort of anti-theft system planned to keep the spare tire from walking away?
@ALNSMOVERLAND5 жыл бұрын
Many thanks ! I'm very glad to hear all of that ! And we really think the same way ... ahaha I wanted to keep the stock bumper and to make the less cut possible in it. I also wanted to keep everything centered and tight against the hatch for weight distribution. I also wanted (I wanted a lot of things ahaha) to keep the taillights clear for obvious safety reasons. All of this made the build a bit more difficult and it's a tight fit to open the hatch. But we made it and everything work (and look !) nice. So I'm very happy with it 😉
@ALNSMOVERLAND5 жыл бұрын
Oh and yes, at the moment, I have nothing to secure the spare. And I guess that anti theft lug nuts are not enough ... So I'm gonna fix this quick

Friggin amazing work! One question that I wish I knew the answer to is why the rear triangle behind the spare tire mount was made so high up on the top point. Its hard to tell but it looks like the top point goes higher than the center of the hub of the spare wheel. Seems like any length of metal above the center line of the hub would be unecesary but I'm sure there's a legitimate reason for that being there. The triangle mount its self with the three anchor points to the swing arm looks plenty strong so not sure why the extra length was added to the tire mount. Either way it looks really nice and is my favorite mod to your Foz so far! keep it up!
@ALNSMOVERLAND5 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate! There is absolutely a reason for it! And it's that we screw up the first time and the spare wheel was way too high and we couldn't open the hatch anymore 😂 So we lowered the mounting point of the wheel and didn't cut the extra metal on top 😉

No worries John! We did that in a weekend. I paid a lot for the proper hinges which came from the US and I think it was under 300€ total. I'm pretty sure with DIY hinges you can to it for 100€ or less!

Hey Mike, thanks for your comment. The gas tank mount itself came with the gas tank, we didn't build it

Very nice. What spring rate are you using on the rear of your Foz to support the weight of the tire and fuel?

Hello my friend, I'm watching all your videos and hope you doing well. Really interested in spare tyre carrier like yours. If you have, please can you give some advice how to do it proper. Maybe you had some drawings, or can you do a measurement? Thanks Sincerely, Subaru forester lover from Lithuania

Hey there! I'm glad you enjoy the content! We made this from scratch! Without any plans. We measured up directly on the car and then built it. This is how my friend Robert works and so do I! Best way of doing it ahaha

How much total you spent on it? Awesome design!

Around 200€ I guess. Most of this comes from the specific hinges I imported from the US
