Today we took on something we have NEVER done before! We went down to Tuscon, Arizona for the Duct Tape Drags hosted by David Freiburger and Vice Grip Garage. We may not have been the fastest car there (by a long shot) but boy did we have fun.

Derek was spot on. If your lights were more than .500, you could probably leave off the second amber. BYW, don’t even try to put race gas or premium in that car. It slows you down. The need for extra timing and higher octane is a zero net gain. Race fuel is “colder” and needs higher cylinder pressures to burn completely. People crutch it by adding timing. Timing is ONLY there to provide complete combustion. If you have stock heads, with stock compression, you won’t burn all the gas, and exhaust temps go up. It’s burning out the header, instead of the cylinder. Timing is based on combustion chamber efficiency. Add too much, you get the rattle reminder. Close timing gets you a rattle you can’t hear. (Why LS motors use a knock sensor) After 40 years of drag racing, and countless hours on the dyno, you learn a few things. You’re better off with a fuel based on your combustion chamber needs and then adjust timing to that. If you have any questions, drop me a PM.

Awesome job for your 1st time dragracing. Derek was definitely telling you the truth about going on amber/yellow. It's crazy how much it can improve your times & chances of winning. Have you ever heard of a wholeshot win? It's when you cross the finish line 1st with a slower E.T., but with a faster reaction time. I know it sounds crazy, but if you wait to see green then you're really late on the light & will more than likely lose unless you have a really fast car, so that means you need to really practice on your R.T.'s!!😂😂😂 It would be really cool to see you twin turbo that engine & see how much faster it could be for next year!! I think the more you raced it & the faster you got the more you'd love it!! Thanks for all of the hard work y'all put into these videos and making us feel like part of the team!!

Rudy you were never racing against the car in the opposite lane. You were running against yourself. The guy in the other lane may have gotten down the track more quickly but you still won! Glad to see the MORR crew there with you!

You go Rudy! Yes more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. Hell, I never drive my GS regal 'cause (even though not really fast) just the weight of my foot gets me in trouble, even before I stomp it. On the other hand, my straight piped SX4 is hilarious and fun. Keep it up. Mini for the win!

Dude you got it into the 15's I didn't think you would get into the 17's. Having driven them when new they were slugs then and barely did 16's. As a Corvair family you only need to be able to smoke your Dad and there are lots of ways to do that. Keep having fun and that ONX build is crazy fun hope you win this year.

Back in the 60s at US30 dragstrip I had a friend that had a 1960 Pontiac H / Stock Automatic and the only car that ever beat him was a Corvair turbo ! This Pontiac held both the Et and Mpg of the H/ stock Automatic AHRA record.

I’m old. Old enough to remember when Chevy Corvairs were new. They had a following but they were never known to be dependable. The number one issue, as they aged, was the fan belt would fly off. Of all the old cars to be in love with Matt…. WHY?! To each his own.

Overall didn’t you get 6 seconds faster? In the first video the slowest time was 18 or 20 seconds? I’ve seen people do a 302 swap. But you kept it stock (mostly stock) good on you.

Just a tip change the gearstick back a bit and try to get shorter movement between the gears, you will be shifting faster.
