how we can all live our dream lives
Growing up, we're taught that only a few people can live their dream lives - those who work hard and do all that they can to get there. We've all been lied to. There's an abundance of resources, wealth, and opportunities for us all to have it all and live our dream lives, and we shouldn't have to slave away to get there. In this video, I share my rules for breaking through the lies we've been taught about access, hustle culture, and work.
watch next:
i don't have a dream job - • i don't have a dream job

i JUST cried to my mom this morning over stress from college and wanting more time to focus on my design job i already have and getting my beadwork jewelry business going. it’s so weird how normalized our stress and anxiety is to upkeep things that don’t satisfy us. i so badly want to beat the system. i was definitely meant to hear this message today.

The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, he said: “Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

You literally took the words out of my mouth. My boyfriend and I were talking yesterday about how neither of us ever want to go back to a 9-5 and would rather do something that will benefit ourselves and our community. I think my only problem is I don’t know what I want to do. Like I’m 24 and I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I spent 7 years working 2 jobs, 10 hrs per day, 6 days a week and I feel like I’m so burnt out now and don’t have any idea what my actual passion or dream is

I had this mentality when I was a child. I never wanted to work a job just to retire at 65. I didn’t see the point of waiting until you’re almost 70 to really start living. (Yeah, I was a kid who was way beyond her years.) I never wanted to do what I saw everyone else doing. And yet, when I became an adult, I fell right in step with the very way of life I so despised. You’ve awakened this childhood dream of mine. I am officially woke and I am never going back to sleep. Time to turn this dream into a reality!!!!! Time for all of us to leave this decrepit archaic system behind and forge into new territory. I think you are starting a movement for this generation! And I am totally on board!

Yes! My father would come home and complain about work and I remember thinking to myself “well, I don’t want to be like that!” I had a handful of very short-term part-time jobs and worked hard in Los Angeles as a background actor and stand-in (super long days but you can somewhat choose what days you want to work and take a vacation whenever you want, if you can afford it) before finally working online (and working in film when I could) and although the stress is still there about rent and bills, the freedom is great! I keep trying to help my friends and boyfriend(s) find their own way but so many people even after seeing what’s possible still say “well, that’s not normal, not everybody can do that, if I want money I need to get a full-time job.” People can be very brainwashed! I’m so grateful for the internet, I don’t know what I would be doing without it. 🤣

@@kendalbrenneman I’m glad you didn’t lose sight of your goal! It’s so easy to do when you’re swept up into adulthood. I recently had an ice breaker at work via Zoom. We all said what we saw ourselves doing 10 years from now. Everyone, and I mean everyone, said that they’d be retired, close to retirement, or still working at the job with the hope of retiring in the distant future. I was baffled at their lack of vision, drive, and goals. I felt so sad for them and angry at the same time. On the other hand, I said that I’d be freelancing so I could travel and still earn money from anywhere. I also said that I’d be living my life to enjoy my passions. Now that I’m woke, I can’t imagine life any other way. I wish you much success as you live out life on your terms!!!
@kendalbrenneman
@kendalbrenneman 3 жыл бұрын
@@NateshasAmbience Oh gosh, yes, I can't even relate to people who talk about retirement! My dream was to be an actress, and never retire until I couldn't work anymore. I still want to act, though I feel a bit stuck there at the moment. But there are other things I can work on until then! But the idea of putting off the things you want to do for the distant future, counting down the time... I just want to enjoy what I do, and do it for as long as I want, and have the freedom to enjoy life NOW, and not hope that I don't die before "later" arrives. Besides, not having a 'normal' job, I don't have a retirement fund or pension or anything, so to actually "retire" in that way isn't even an option. :-P

I left my job a little while ago, definitely without a well-formulated plan, but certainly knowing that I was miserable there and it wasn't for me. I prepared my tiny nest egg and *flew* ✈. I just *can't* fake the happiness for 8-12 hours a day anymore. I'm so hard-working and motivated and passionate, but that just dies instantly at every job I hate. Loving what you do is the only way to sustain motivation, forever. I have this infinite reservoir of creative energy when I love something. I'm on an extended vacay in my homeland to find my purpose and passion again, and it's working. 😁🏝🇵🇷 I don't wanna be a bum forever... I just haven't felt this good about life since I was a child. I'm 28. I'm TIRED of being tired. I feel alive today. I am more inspired to create and "do" and *live* than I've ever been. The self-care (physical/mental/emotional/spiritual/allat) is WORKING, honeyyyy! I don't even know what the "something" is I'm looking for but I feel closer to it right now than ever before. Lynette, this is the type of content we need more of in this world. We have normalized a standard of living that never truly allows us to live. And when we shirk that standard, we get punished, ie no money to have any comfort and being burdens to others. We won't even get into how we are treated at work for subpar pay. The best way I've seen out is to work in service for yourself until you can make a living, which takes out some authentic creativity, but there isn't really an alternative. Make your hobbies your livelihood.

For many things in life the scariest part is honestly just starting because you’re unsure of the outcome, but that’s the point to enjoy the ride and experience new things you’ve never thought of. Life is full of surprises. I’m 23 , moved from LA to the Bay Area last year & the end of this month will be moving to Chicago & am laser focused on starting to brand myself and am currently working on posting my first KZbin video. In this process & reflecting on past jobs , experiences , overall this past year I can genuinely stand behind this statement and say that you really CAN DO whatever YOU WANT TO DO it just all starts with your mindset & putting faith before fear. Y’all life is crazy and moves us in many different directions, but just do what you truly want to do and let life take you. Trust the process, we all got this. Thank you so much for posting this, I love the content 🙌🏼 We all didn’t stumble across this video for no reason , nor are we all posting in the comments for no reason. ❤️

100% Agree!! I too am currently working a 9-5 and recently changed my perspective on life and began to identify my gift so that I can live the life I choose. Since I was a child I loved to make Barbie clothes and play dress up. I’ve since started a blog and said if not for any other reason this allow me to be myself and live the life I’ve imagined. Omg thank you for this video. This is exactly what I was thinking about the past weeks. Use my privilege and all the resources to help others. Maybe be a bit selfish in my next years and work hard for my own dream, so I multiply my money and people that listen to me so after that I can share all my resources and money and ideas with others! I also think to crash the system doesn’t matter if the financial or political or educational system, you have to be as high as the people that make the rules in the system but then not be like them and sit quietly on your own ass and eat you own money and let other people work for you, but to help other people up there. Help that other voices get heard. That other people get the same access as I do. Empower them to being able to change something. And i love that. And I am so glad I have found this video. Thank you ❤️

I never hear this kind of stuff from influencers/youtubers and this perspective of giving back to your community is so important ! I think people are afraid of the word privilege maybe because they take their perks and resources for granted and barely even use them for themselves. I also think people see this idea of sharing as giving something away or being self scarifying when in reality it will benefit you too because you’re getting to feel useful and purposeful, if anything it’s a win win situation! Great video ☁️✨

The message in this video is everything, but what’s really getting me is how we’re all about the same age (I’m 24) and feeling the same way and all in some version of a similar situation. Lynette is so right, there are enough of us that we can make this change!! I wanna be multilingual just to be and I really want to help people develop their spiritual understanding and grow though traumas through different holistic methods, mainly yoga & meditation. It still feels weird admitting that bc I feel like that seems so wuwu and unrealistic. But I know in my heart I can figure it out and there will be a community to accept me and the same is true for you.

I agree that using capitalism to fight capitalism is the best solution for now, but unfortunately it will never fully solve the issue long term. I loved this video. I think one of the main problems is also more practical: taxes. Once you're financially considered rich, in order to stay that way you have to meet a standard, the richer you are the fewer taxes you pay. Rich people mostly do donations to avoid taxes and I think this is also one of the reasons why they don't like to invest in something that it's no profitable for them (let's say not big associations etc.). It's a system that sucks and I hate that the world has normalized this so I really believe that knowledge and this awareness newer generations have can make society do small but steady steps towards a better world. It's a long process but I think that keeping a positive mindset and believing that there is a way out is still better than giving up and gives you enough strength to keep going. It also really helps seeing people making it and being open to talking about their experience without keeping some kind of secret to themselves but encouraging others to do the same. It's important that people who have a platform talk about this so I really appreciate you for doing that.

It's so crazy to me the things rich people do to avoid taxes, like it's pure greed. But then I also feel like we need a government we can actually trust to do things with tax payer money that is actually serving communities instead of funding the police, etc. You're right the system just sucks overall

Historically humans have always had to work. Work is part of life. Even before colonialism humans had to hunt and cook and raise livestock & work on the field to raise crops (unless you were rich/royalty) the truth is a lot of people who come from lower incomes DO have to put in insane amounts of work in order to get out of where they are, not only career wise but mentally and spiritually. Where are the successful people who didn’t put in work? The game idea is on point and that’s how I get through my job as well. Life is a big game! We don’t have to take it so seriously. I’ve never wanted to grow up because I’ve seen how messed up the system is, and now I’m older and living this nightmare, and have been asking myself the same question- how can I change this? And yes, I think playing the game for now is the only way I could think of, play the game but work on making money from other things I enjoy in the side, and just pray they lead to my main income source, and then just be ready for when someone with power is ready to speak up for the masses and create a new system, and then give them my support, whether that is protesting or whatever. I really wonder too how many of us spend our 9-5 day jobs not being productive. I really don’t think we need 8 hour work days when we have so many technologies in today’s world. I’ve told myself that if I ever become an entrepreneur and have to hire employees, they will get treated fairly, work less hours, get paid more, and get more vacation days. I hope this system changes soon, so many people I know are miserable and have loads of college debt, and we have to pay it off at our dumb jobs that don’t make us feel purposeful and powerful. Thinking of everyone is this situation ♥️

I started building a small business last year. My parents all doubted me. They were skeptical of me. I was bummed. But I kept going, so far it is still growing and can’t really sustain me. My parents still say things such as ‘you still can’t make a living out of it’ ngl it is demoralising. But I choose to believe in abundance. I wanna trust the process and realise that life happens for me, not to me. I will keep doing it and I believe someday I can start making a living out of it but for now, I gotta learn to enjoy the journey. I gotta trust the process, that means still in my 9-5, still working hard. But someday I will get there. Because I’m gonna break the system. I wanna do this for myself. And to everyone out there who says I gotta do 9-5 till I’m old, I wanna stop this thinking. I believe in abundance. We all can be successful. And we can get what we want.

My whole life my family instilled in me that I had to know what I want to do in life. They say, what’s your dream job and what do you want to major in and I would say I don’t know. All I know is that I love helping people and I like to vacation. Still, years later I feel the same way. I’m just now realizing that it’s ok to not want to have a dream job because my dream job is to not to work at all and that’s ok. 😂 Eventually I maybe will find out what I want to do. I have a inkling that it may be writing. If I do ever write I want to write to help people while vacationing on my villa. That in itself is ok. I don’t want to stress about life all day. Jobs, cars, all that will still be there. Family doesn’t last forever. Being next to my son and vacationing with him and knowing that I helped some people that week is my happy place.

But if the definition of work is something you wouldn't do unless you were paid, how can you expect to be fulfilled by doing it? Plus remember people have to work as things such as cleaners. "Follow your passion" is dangerous advice that leads to chronic job hopping under the illusion you're supposed to be loving life at work.
@Chronorust
@Chronorust 3 жыл бұрын
I would give more of the advice of "following your vocations". A lot of people are just unhappy with life and in danger of getting lost without purpose, which damages their overall health, mentally and physically. The ones that really want this are people who aren't glamoured by what their "dream" feels like, more than they are with knowing that they'll be able to handle the stress a lot more if their allowed the chance to grow it because it works for THEM.

I really like the idea of making it to the point where I can provide housing below market value just by cutting profits but overall it still being profitable and financially sustainable. It's still competition/capitalism but at a higher level and for a higher purpose.

OMG I JUSSTT SAID THIS!! It's ALL a game, and once I actually realized that, life became so much easier. There are so many versions of this life. Versions that some people can't even fathom, yet it's normal to someone else. Understanding that and believing that you have the power to create the life you desire will shift your world. Take things for what they are - a means to something better, a segway. These jobs aren't forever. This life isn't forever, so make it worthwhile. At 23, I now have a mission for my life and for everything I do. It may not seem fun or be pretty at the moment, but it'll get me to where I need to go, which will then lead me to the next version of life I'd like to experience. It's all a game love. Play it or get played, but choose wisely, cause you only get one turn. 💖🏁
