I feel like the reason this wasn't mentioned is because, coding wise, it was probably a by-product of making apartments in the first place. Like they probably used the apartment code as a foundation and built on that. So when it was implemented, it affected all apartments. So maybe less an *intended* feature and more something that just happened.

I also feel that this is unintentional or a glitch. You can see that this Window customization does not work as good as could asume. You can see it when you go to the Evergreen Harbour and try this out with one of the apartments there.. It does not work that good with the balconies for example..

to anyone curious, you can technically get rid of the needs tlc/historical plaque stuff. it's kind of a pain, but you just need to move someone in, delete all of their furniture, and wait until rent comes. after a few days of non-payment, the repoman will show up, and since you don't have any other furniture, they'll take the tlc stuff/plaque. I don't know for certain if it works with the plaque, but it def works with the pipes and rat holes and all that Eta: with this update, they may take the windows as well? Haven't tested it. If so just keep waiting, they'll get to the other stuff eventually (assuming this wasn't silently patched out)

Not just the windows! Onlyabidoang discovered you can also access the apartment shell lots in San Myshuno & Evergreen Harbor by placing stairs. You can’t add in new walls, but you add in furniture and it functions just fine, meaning you can turn the shell apartment into shared spaces now.

Because some of the NAPs in Evergreen Harbor can actually change the exteriors including windows of the apartments in Evergreen Harbor, there was a conflict that could happen when the balconies were editable that could cause a save breaking glitch. For the same reason, even though San Myshuno apartment windows are now editable, the Evergreen harbor apartment windows still are mostly not. I wish they would trouble shoot it more and at least let us “place in world” items from our inventory on the balconies since we can usually place those anywhere.

But tbh I feel like the “breaking” aspect just isn’t acceptable to me! I think City Living will always have a place for people who want apartments but don’t necessarily want to build or download them! Personally I’ll always love it because the environment itself is nostalgic to me. Its the only real metropolitan city world that we have in game I think. With skyscrapers / hi-rises and all. Now if they could just give players the freedom to change the doors and get rid of the lot challenges we don’t want, it would make everything so much better!

since it wasn't mentioned anywhere, and we just had a pack where you could fully customize and build your own apartments ... i firmly believe this is an unintended "bug". Maybe some of the apartment-building-coding overlapped with the city living apartments and that's why the outside walls are customizable BECAUSE why, if it was intentional, aren't the hallway doors and lot traits customizable/changable? Exactly. Maybe they will even "fix" the bug and then the community will riot.

It was actually confirmed by SimGuruNinja, it's intentional and not a bug :) They just forgot to mention it in the patch notes. They also forgot to mention the radiator updates, so basically I think it was a case of "too much to mention, and we forgot".

I found this feature by accident when I was messing around with Eco Lifestyle. The issue with doors seems to be that you can't edit anything that goes up against the hallway/shared space. In one of the Eco Lifestyle apartments I could change any windows on the walls except for anything on the front wall since that's where the hallway is. Still: game changer.

Yeah I found this problem too. I think you're right that it's the shared wall against the hallway that counts as "not your property". I haven't tried but I expect the San Myshuno apartments are the same if you tried to put windows into the public hallways.

I do agree about the windows, and I'm currently busy rebuilding some horrible apartments... but the apartment with the body outline is actually the easiest to change. Instead of the weird shape, just draw a straight line. The now smaller and windowless room makes for quite a luxurious bathroom, for such a small and cheap apartment. And in the bedroom, you can now place e.g. a desk and a computer under the small window. Then remove the old bathroom, now you have a nice open-floor entertainment area, where you can put kitchen, dining and living room. Put a wall there, one tile from the entrance door - not only you now have a wall for the TV, but also an entrance hall. Now you have a luxurious apartment built in a modern style - open-space entertainment area to the left, private sleeping area to the right. And for the cheapest rent in the town, too!

i feel like the next pack revamp will be city living, they need to let us adjust the entryways and doors, at the very least through manage worlds, they could also let us upload room groups to the gallery (so, apartments, but also rooms with platforms or with wardrobes, etc.). also, penny pizzazz IS supposed to be famous, she is on multiple billboards around san myshuno and yet she isnt actually famous ingame if you have get famous (?). they also need to add a toggle for festival notifications in settings, theyre so unbearably annoying when you dont care about them (because the festivals are kinda boring)

It wasn't a bug, actually. It was part 1 of a fix to make them work better. But they reverted it since people were complaining. :) They're still working on making it work the way they want it to afaik though. The end goal to my understanding is the railings only disappearing if something is in the same spot as where they'd be.

I think that they were supposed to release this as the big new build feature for the for rent EP, but didn't had enough time to finish it and relised it by accident. Hopefully they'll update it to change doors too! I used this new feature to make a laundromat in the downstairs in one of the apartments of Evergreen Harbour. It is functional (you can also change the windows) but since the door is fake and you can't change it you have to teleport inside/outside.

I really find this idea that the apartments in City Living are such a big feature that it makes the pack worth less cuz we have these other apartments now lol They're such a small feature compared to everything else that came with City Living. Not to mention that Evergreen Harbor has these style of apartments too so it should have already been worth less then. I'm definitely glad that they opened up customizing the City Living/Evergreen Harbor style of apartments though cuz it'll make them a bit easier to use now.

Honestly despite the added customisation of apartments introduced with For Rent, I still feel like city living is the better expansion pack because of the other game play that comes with it. The festivals are so much better than the empty and unproductive market in the for rent pack, and city living doesn't function primarily off of loading screens and rabbit holes to do anything unlike for rent

@@Dean_W1nchester. I get where you're coming from with that. Personally I think it's just really that they're quite different. City Living focuses on a broader subject (living in a city) while For Rent focuses on a more specific subject (rental properties and being a landlord). I think that's also why the idea that For Rent should have been a game pack is so prevalent cuz the whole focusing on one specific concept thing is more in line with a game pack. Expansions normally focus on a broad subject. However, given how much work it seems went into the new tool for rental I think that's why it's an expansion. I'm sure a lot of time and money went into being able to make residential rentals.

I think they deliberately don't say anything, just to surprise you creators, when they change something like this window edit. LOL Also the bedroom is just fine. It couldn't be any worse than the multi million mansion in downtown nyc, that was or still is for sale. A different decorator did one room each and they had a cotton candy room, or that is what the real estate tour guy called it. Apparently the owners main bedroom. Made you want to barf.

I’m actually so excited I decorated my Sims entire apartment for a specific storyline I’m playing out with them. I’m super happy with the apartment and would not want to move them out or redo it or anything but for some reason all of the windows just randomly disappeared and I haven’t been able to put them back so I just put mirrors instead 😭😭

you can also put decore outside, change the wallpaper, the collums, and put stairs in the apartments (not able to use them however)

Also in case anyone doesn't know, you CAN also change windows/exterior wallpaper for Evergreen Harbor apartments! Someone tested and they could do it, you only can't change the ones on the balconies... But we couldn't before either.

Not gonna lie, I kinda love the fact that the apartments have some minor unchangeable things. Like the deleting the plaques or removing a lot trait. If that kind of lore building was introduced in other places like if some lots in Evergreen Harbor would be stuck with reduced recycling because they're near the water or something that'd be cool

I have my sims live in San Myshuno a lot and I don't think I'll be moving the windows around because I do care that the windows match in the exterior. However I would love to be able to change the doors.
