Eric Burdon & The Animals were part of the British Invasion in the 60's along with the Beatles & others. People were always shocked at the deep voice coming out of the lead singer. They had so many great songs such as "The House of the Rising Sun", "We Gotta Get Out of This Place", "It's My Life", "Don't Bring Me Down", "I'm Crying", "See See Rider", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, "San Franciscan Nights", "When I Was Young" & "Sky Pilot". He later joined the funk rock band "War" who had hits with "Spill The Wine" & "Tobacco Road".

Eric Burdon was one of the great blues and soul singers from the UK to bring the love of the music back to its home in the 60s. '65? Big bassman Chas Chandler left in '66, was led to Jimi Hendrix in NY by Rolling Stone Keith Richards' GF Linda Keith, and took him back "over 'ome" to manage and spring on the world. ;>D

As some have mentioned, Sam Cooke (with Lou Rawls singing backup) had a hit with this 3 years before the Animals, who released this as a tribute to Sam Cooke after his death. It was written by Sam Cooke, but actually he only changed the words to this song by Charles Brown kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXfEf4qnoMSnjbc , called "I Want To Go Home", that was released three years prior to "Bring It On Home To Me". Sam was also a master producer and the production was better than "I Want To Go Home", but they are melodically and musically the same song.

I have a couple of big female voices to suggest. These two women's voices are amazing. Linda Eder or Gerphil Flores. Linda was the undefeated singer in the original Star search in 1988 I suggest her song "Gold" or "Someone Like You" Gerphil Flores was David Foster's golden buzzer in 2014 Asia's got talent. On her channel "Somewhere In Time" from the movie with Christopher Reeves "Somewhere In Time" or from the Movie The greatest showman "Never Enough"

So, Eric Burdon heard Sam Cooke had been murdered. He got the group into the studio and recorded this song written by Sam Cooke in tribute to him! When I'd first heard the song, I'd never heard the original bc black music wasn't being played on our local station. It wasn't til years later that I found out, and then, of course, I was upset about it. Just like so many of the Beatles early covers, we just weren't aware. Came to realize the originals were always better! Still appreciated the covers. This was probably my favorite song done by the Animals.
