I'm so sorry you're going through this.. I lost my family home of 50+ years back in May due to this exact situation. We had a river running through the yard and once they started over developing, our house flooded 6-8 feet 3 times in 6 years starting in 2011. We lost an entire floor 3 times. Before that there had NEVER been a SINGLE flood. The county took our home and the homes around it away just to demolish them for THEIR mistakes. They didn't give an f. Leaving wasn't a choice. They took everything. I literally tried taking my life over it. That house was all I knew and now I am in the most screwed up, horrible living situation ever with pieces of garbage living above me, destroying my life. I don't want to live anymore. I sadly don't think your situation will get any better from what I have seen in my own personal experience.. Global warming and developments will wash all of that out sooner than later. They rebuilt another home, that was completely wiped out behind us, on stilts and have it sitting at almost 2 million.. to live on stilts.. 2 frickin hours away from a beach. It's insane. I pray and hope for the best for the two of you. I know how beyond devastating it is. I am happy that you hopefully are able to financially find you way through this.. I absolutely was not and now I am in a nightmare.
