In this episode, we are out on another shakedown sail as the countdown begins for our departure to Indonesia and onwards to Australia. Nandji is close to ready, we are more than ready but we need to finalise the export of our pet dog. It has been an extremely stressful time trying to prepare the necessary documents for our dog to travel home. We have invested a whole lot of time and money for this process to run smoothly, including the use of a "skilled" agent... More problems, more hurdles and more delays... It is as if the world is against us and we can't get us or our hound home!

With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across to South Africa once cyclone season had finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed and our home ended up on the reef... We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! Ready to sail across the Indian Ocean once again, we were only days away from leaving when the pandemic begun closing countries around us... We have just completed our second major refit and Nandji is nearly ready for the long journey ahead of Sailing to Australia for summer!

Come to Canada - would love to have you and your dog . Little bit of a sail though LOL . I suggest cruising the great lakes - thousand islands , Benjamin's and bay Fin , Tobermory and little Current . Swing by the Niagara falls and do the Welland Canal .

Talula looks so natural sitting with Marley, just chill'n. Would it be easier to ship Marley to the U.S , then to Australia. If so, we have a 10 year old female lab that would be willing to keep him company if you would like us to help. Marley is your family so it is hard to watch you guys suffering with this agent. I know what is like to be at the mercy of someone you are not confident in. When we shipped our dog back from Singapore to the U.S. it was so hard.

It’s only NSW, Vic and ACT that are having issues covid wise in Oz so it’s not as bad here as some people have commented on. Would suggest that you head for the NT then go down to WA etc. All good there, ditto in SA and Tassie.

So what if you just happened to be anchored in a remote spot close to the Australian shoreline and you put Marley in the dinghy and say you got close to shore and maybe the pup just jumped like he always does and swam himself to shore and fortunately you had a nearby friend that "rescued" him and kept him while you got Nandji and crew checked in?

I feel for you with Marley. Unfortunately, we have gone through the same experience with our staffy. Being ex-pats for 10yrs and having our Staffy travel with us. Endless dramas but eventually used the "emotional support dog" routine to keep our boy with us. But when it came to returning home, OMG, what a mind field. Followed all the processes to the tee, 180 days, blood test sent to Uk etc, on and on and on.......promise after promise. And the final outcome..........Not possible in the end................... We miss him! Good luck

I feel for you. I’ve moved my dogs through four countries and the move we are about to do back to Australia is by far the hardest. We’ve started 11 months out. Total nightmare.. the issue also is the agents will only do ‘parts’ of the 13 page import process and don’t coordinate well… poor Marley! Hope it works out.. If you haven’t already, download the import process and cross reference each of the steps with Jane the Useless.. 🐕 🤗 ❤️

what if you sail Marley to New Caledonia , get his shots up dated, then bring him to Aukland by boat, do you quarantine there, then fly him to Australia....it might add a year to you trip home, . Or as Rowena says maybe he is keeping you from unthinkable things.

New Zealand & Aussie are F’d up right now, I’m speaking as a Xpat Kiwi who lives in BC Canada. Never of these places are Sane at present, perhaps Western Australia is your best bet. It’s isolation from the East maybe it’s saving grace. Stay safe.👌

Maybe it's not ment to be. This isn't the safest way to ship an animal.. I lost my dog she was half dead by the time we got her back.. I didn't want to tell this story . Keeping Marley with you may well be the best option, anyway. Australia's quarantine requirements have always been insane at the best of times and are the result of pressure by the powerful cattlemen lobby and their National Party minions. I have travelled a lot with my dog(s) and have taken them out of Australia and back again a few times, experiencing the soulless Australian quarantine bureaucracy first hand. I remember a Dutch Department of Agriculture lady helping me with the paperwork rolling her eyes at me saying, "Australia? They're nuts, they carry on as if nobody else in the world knows anything about dairy and cattle industries. They might want to remember that a lot of their cows are Friesians..." Be that as it may, is Australia really your only possible option right now, as your destination, I mean?

If you can't fly Marley to New Zealand because you're agent doesn't know what she's doing and you can't bring him to Australia because of government rules and regulations than why don't you just sail to New Zealand as a family and go back home when things finally settled down in Australia this is just a thought but I know that you are committed to getting all of your family members including Marley home! Yosh, the very last place you should be at the moment is Australia or New Zealand, they have the worse lock down measures in the world, try and stay where you are or go elsewhere but not Australia.
