Laying in bed and reading your phone is a great way to kill any energy you have starting the day - especially if you go anywhere near the news right now! I would say you need to try and get up straight away and take care of one easy chore immediately, and then BAM you started your day productively. Even if it's just getting up and putting the bed away within 10 minutes of the alarm going off. Check out Atomic Habits by James Clear - this could also be a good way to push through the struggle and get some parts of van life into your routine properly. You could also break down every single chore you need to do in a list, and then sort them for priority and how often they need doing. That way you know what you need to do for you to feel good (like starting a hike 15 minutes late because if you don't do the washing up now you'll feel worse later), and you know what you can leave for a special "van life chores" chunk of time you set aside on another day. I love seeing lots of videos on your channel, but you have to look after yourselves BEFORE you do anything else. Look after one-another and keep striving to be better :)

Hi..I ve just discovered your channel. Van life is tough and challenging. What I suggest is maybe have breaks from the van from time to time. Maybe after your session in Swiss, you can drive back to your country, leave the van there and fly off to somewhere warmer like Turkey or Egypt or Pakistan that s still open to tourist(with a PCR test done I think). After that break(for a few weeks), by then Europe should be warmer and hopefully less lockdowns and you can travel again with the van. Kara and Nate had so many problems with their van as well and they left their van for some weeks for a break period. All the best and cheer up.
@NaickKim3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot! We do enjoy traveling in our van though ;) It will be easier when the weather improves as well. We would love to travel to those countries sooner, rather than later, but we don't feel it's very prudent to travel by plane right now and take public transport, etc. Maybe a road trip to Turkey? ;) Luckily we haven't had the extent of problems with our van as they have.

Germany is great for van camping. Great infrastructure, but not the remote and restrictive sh*t like in Switzerland and Scandinavia. Many very diverse areas both urban and countryside. In the north at the coast, flat land in the middle and east and the southern areas of Bavaria and you must go to to the area of Bodensee, Konstanz etc. But do Germany in the spring or summer. Germany alone will keep you busy, but not exhausted for a quite a while.

I live alone in a wheelchair in my van. With the wheelchair everything took 5 times longer. In 1 hour I have everything done, water trash, cleaning dishes, clean the van (with the wheelchair it gets 5 times faster dirty) . What’s my secret? I have automated cleaning with a roboter. Designed the van for water not freezing. Also made all parts thisway I can handle them. So in no time everything is ready. Cooking for Example. I have a slow cooker, and to my dishes after eating. With a paper towel an dishsoap. Everytime I go outside I take my trash with me. Everytime I go inside I fill up my waterbottel at the wheelchair and refill it in my watertank. So you have a waterstream and must not seek water for the tank. I write down all my tasks and optimize them. And so in no time everything is done. I pile up nothing. When it happend I do it.
@NaickKim3 жыл бұрын

I have this robot amzn.to/37Mht91 braava jet 250. It‘s small and perfect for the van. If you go out for a walk start this dude and when you come back it’s clean. The pads I wash the dirt of, and for the final step wash with my clothes. This system is nearly perfect. I wish the robot starts on his own, when I leave the van for longer time. This is the only complaint that I have. I like this robot cause of it size. It’s so small that is perfect for my van. I have a lot of floorspace, cause my van looks inside completely different because of my wheelchair.

Thank you for this honest review and insight into your daily life when you’re not on adventure. May I ask you how you do your laundry?
@NaickKim3 жыл бұрын
The hike starts at the old Hotel Monte Leone, up at the Simplon Pass (road from Brig to Italy). I found it in the Switzerland Mobility app, which has a bunch of hikes, crosscountry ski trails,etc. You can set the map to 'winter hiking' or 'summer hiking' depending on the season and it'll give you appropriate hikes. Living in a van brings it challenges indeed. We do laundry at a laundromat or a campsite.

So, I have a question about your particular van life. Is there a way to keep the water tank so that it doesn't freeze? Or insulate it so it doesn't freeze? Are those even practical options giving your energy requirements and usage? also, I highly recommend spending the first hour of your day and the last hour before bed technology free. No phone, no computer, no nothing! Practicing such a routine really helps I can say this from experience as well as research I have done with couples that travel. thanks for the insight it's something to consider I have friends in America building a van right now I'm sending them your videos so they can take into consideration the lifestyle that is to come for them
@NaickKim3 жыл бұрын
Not sure if there is a way to keep the water tank from freezing. We put it inside the van instead of underneath it to avoid precisely that but when it is minus 20 to minus 30 degrees Celsius outside for weeks pretty much everything in your cupboard can freeze (even though we insulated all walls plus the floor). We had a bunch of stuff freeze like olive oil, potatoes, drinks 😂 and that is in spite of the heater running 24/7 to keep it warm inside 😜 someone mentioned a heating element like you have in aquariums to keep the tank from freezing but then that still does not prevent the water in the water pump from freezing or the pipes if you keep your circuit open. The only solution we could think of (but did not have time to look for before leaving cause we left Belgium in a hurry) is to get something like anti freeze fluid that you can put in drinking water. Not even completely sure it exists haha but if it does that could be a solution. If the weather is not as extreme as in the arctic I am not sure until what point a 120 liter tank would manage not to freeze... But even after we left it was like minus 10 for weeks at night in Polanr and then Switzerland which was enough to keep our big ice block frozen 😅 you are definitely right about the no phone thing before bed. Something we have realized too 😊
