20/20 vision isn't actually perfect, you can have better vision, but basically what it means is that the numerator is the test distance eg 20 feet, and the denominator is the distance at which each component of the letter (the letters are scaled in a grid system so each "part" of a letter has the same size) creates a specific angle with the nodal point of the eyes

Idk what some people are talking about, but 20/20 means that from 20ft away you can read the smallest row of letters on the letter chart that are supposed to be able to be read from 20ft and closer. 20/40 means that from 20ft away, the smallest letters you can read are the ones that are supposed to be able to be read at 40ft and closer (meaning you can't read the ones that are supposed to able to be read from 20ft and closer as they are too small for you)

How vision tests works is that the first 20 never changes because it represents the 20ft you stand away from the chart, and the second number represents the size of font on the paper, so 20/20 means at 20 ft away you can read size 20 font on a paper. So the smaller the number on the right side the better the vision, and the only better are 20/15 and 20/10 I belive

The numbers in your vision score refer to how well you can see things compared to the average. If you can see the same amount from 20 feet as the average from 20 feet, you have 20/20 vision. If you can see from 30 feet from others can see from 20, you have 30/20 which is actually better

1:17 About 20/20 vision... this may not be an entirely accurate explanation, but this is what I seem to remember... it's a sort of ratio, if you will. The first number (20 is default) represents a set value for distance (in feet) from an object in terms of how clearly you can see it; the second is a distance value indicating how far away normal eyesight would have to be from the object to see it with the amount of clarity that you see it when you're 20 feet from said object. That said, the lower the second number, the better your eyesight, and generally, anything above 20/50 needs glasses/contacts. ...sorry if this is an unclear and/or inaccurate description; this is just the best way I could word what I remember.

20/20 vision means you see something 20 feet away, as 20 feet away. If you have higher vision you see 20 as if it was farther that 20 feet away, such as 20/100, seeing as if it were 100 feet away. If the number is lower than 20 you see things as if they were closer than 20 feet at 20 feet away, such as 20/10, seeing it as 10 feet away. I know this stuff because without my glasses I have a 20/150 vision, and with them I have 20/100 vision. So the farther away from 20 the second number is, the worse your vision is in the end. I have no idea if anyone has actually answered this right, but 20/20 is the standard of vision. It indicates that at 20 feet, you can clearly see what should essentially be visible at 20 feet. If you had 20/10 vision, (blessed soul) you could see something clearly from 20 feet away that the standard person could only see when they were 10 feet away. The lower the bottom number the better, the higher the bottom number the worse.

I work for a physician assistant for an eye doctor lol. 20/20 is the standard because it means that at 20 feet away it looks like the object is actually 20 feet away. If your vision is 20/400 than it appears 400 feet away when it is 20 feet away. Then there is also count fingers, hand motion, light perception, and no light perception.
