I've always thought that weird instrument sounds to me like a kazoo sampled and heavy effects added - I love this song so much - instrumentally sparse but addictively catchy, and the only time it gets lush is with all the vocals and harmonies. hongjoong’s first line is supposed to mimic the flow of “eenie meenie minie moe, catch a tiger by its toe” which is an interesting detail imo. plus, the message of his lyrics is so profound and the way that the the lyrics tie together is very satisfying. hj is the king of flow/delivery switches too and personally i like that it isn’t “seamless” per se. i find that his verse just has so much character and adds some extra grit to the song.
