How to get Mossy Earth to help the Native people of Attu in Alaska the descendents wish to return to the Island but there is a need to reforestation there was a Forest 10,000 years ago and this would help the people return

Mossy Earth is the best. I've found other rewilding youtube channels and they all are too focused on making money and not enough on the actual wilding. Mossy Earth is all about the world, the projects, and the impact they have; money is secondary in your videos. That feels more honest, more genuine, and more sincere. Because you care more about the planet, we care more about you. That's my 2 cents. Thanks for the course, I'll be sharing it in all my local gardening groups! I may sit on a tiny suburban lot but I've always dreamed of a wild back yard :)

Thanks a lot for your feedback! I think you've hit the nail on the head when it comes to describing what our main focus is. Getting the most 'environmental bang for your buck' when it comes to spending our member's funds on restoring nature is how we've approached it since day 1. Thanks for spreading the word about the course. There's a part dedicated to rewilding your own space, either big or small, so we hope it's useful for anyone who signs up from your local gardening groups. Cheers, Tim

How about the Native Habitat Project? In my experience they ask for a whole lot money than even mossy earth does.

I actually signed up for this course last week when I saw it on your website. I want to bring rewilding and Mossy Earth to the American Great Lakes region, which is the largest freshwater ecosystem on Earth. There is much potential in the US states and Canadian provinces that border one or more of the Great Lakes. Lake Erie is suffering algae blooms from farm runoff. The good news is there are agricultural colleges at several large university who can assist in research. I'd love to have a job fundraising in the US for Mossy Earth.

@@causedisland6056 I worked on the first two modules. The project at the end of the second module was to build a birdhouse or water feature in your yard. That got me to try and clean up my yard a bit, but there's so much overgrown, and crumbling (last owners were crazy bad) it's all I can do just to keep it from getting worse. I'm disabled by Long Covid so even though I'm only 39, I can't do much. My wife works 12 hours a day so I have to watch our kids and maintain the house. My dad lives with us. He barely helps even when he does have the energy. I gave an earnest attempt only to have issues that I have no control over get in the way. Winter is on the way but maybe docs will finally decide to give me the antivirals I need and I can restart next spring. I'd really love to have some kind of certification, because local parks departments are polluting parks and killing lawns with massive mowers shaving the lawn down to 2 inches. They tell me residents want this; for lawns to die and turn brown. They let trees just die and overgrow in the forest areas with zero management. They could bring a woodchipper out and fix the trails with woodchips, but they just leave 100% of the deadwood, which is not optimal. There is no concept of forest management in too many public parks. But no Mossy Earth in Michigan (or North America) to help out. Every single conservation group in the state of Michigan is related to hunting.

after Huricane Helen this would open up need to restore habitat of the river valleys of the 6 states effected. whole river valleys wiped out. at 1 point they had more water in the rivers than the Niagra falls.

This is great! I feel that this is important to teach people about, as a certain degree of people have a lot of weird misconceptions about rewilding and what it entails, at least imho
@MossyEarth3 ай бұрын
Indeed, this is why module 1 goes straight into 'What is rewilding', the different approaches, and how to make your own assessments (in areas like 'assessing the value of ecosystems'). There's a lot to unpack so the course is designed to help people navigate the rewilding space with more ease! Cheers, Tim

excited to check this out!! love that you will provide it for free for folks who don't have the extra cash at the moment. if there's enough demand, how about adding an option for folks who want to go the extra mile to sponsor a course for someone? if even half our members did it, could cover the cost for a lot of folks!

There's some interesting things going on. Toronto is rewilding the mouth of the Don River and adjacent areas into a large wetland to manage flooding from large rainstorms and filter and detoxify water from storm sewers.
@pufthemajicdragon3 ай бұрын
So much. The tar sands as one person already mentioned. Peat bogs that have been mined for peat moss. Mineral mines galore. Canada's a big, wild country but it's still had its share of human hubris mucking it up in places.

If you want money, just ask for donations. Doing "modules" for $150 is just hucksterism when anyone can buy a used textbook for twenty bucks. Keep merch and teaching separate.

This is super duper awesome! Are the concepts discussed in the course broad and universal, or a little more region specific? Obviously examples will be tailored to that situation/environment/ecosystem/community or what be it, but will there be lots of applications for somewhere like Canada?
