When I was a child, we needed to grow at least 700 kg for family of 4. We ate potatoes every day, there was no dinner without them. Every day potatoes and meat, and soup, veggies often were optional.

Potatoes, if you can store them properly, can be used almost in any way! They can be used in stews & casseroles; like she said roasted, boiled, fried, canned and a LARGE _baking potato_ can be a meal by itself! This is why the 'Irish' left Ireland during the 'Potato Famine' for greener pastures, this STARCH is essential in a SHTF situation when _all you have to eat is what you can still grow!_

And I can also imagine, that if one has early varieties, one could get two harvests a year of them.

Dawn dish soap for sure. I mix it up in a 1 gallon sprayer - dawn dish soap and water. Spray it on this young bugs while they are still soft, kills them every time.

Those bugs on your squash you are spraying with dawn are young squash bugs. They will just get big and you will get more. The best way to deal with them is to hand pick them off and drop them in a jar of soapy water or gas or alcohol.

@FavoredAcreHomestead
@FavoredAcreHomestead Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Our soil is heavy too. And in half the garden about 6-8 inches down it’s clay. So for the potatoes we bought some soft composted top soil. $40 for a huge truck load so once the potatoes came up we hilled with the compost. I have a shorts video if it 😊

Thank you. We did side dress one time with 13-13-13. Then the last time we hilled the potatoes we used a loose compost soil, kinda like a raised bed mix that we buy in bulk for a great price and that mix also had fertilizer in it.

We are located in alabama on the gulf coast. There is some sand and also clay about 6-8 in down in some areas. Florida is VERY sandy! We are about 45 min from the beach
@FavoredAcreHomestead
@FavoredAcreHomestead Жыл бұрын
We don’t mix sand in the soil but there is some sand. There is also clay. I’d love to learn how to improve the soil because it needs some TLC. For the potatoes we did add a good amount of loose composted soil that we bought in bulk
