A suggestion from someone who worked in Lads aping for 42 years, many times alone. Next time you need to get a large stone into the wheelbarrow, lay it down next to the stone and roll the stone up to the wheelbarrow. Now you have leverage to lift the wheelbarrow up. If you have a helper, one on either side makes it much easier. A back saver

The arm props under the wheelbarrow are great for grabbing, pulling up toward your head, and easily dumping heavy things. Another trick we have used to move giant boulders is to use moving straps-I am a petite wimp and helped my husband lift a fridge using the straps without issue. A German Mason taught me to drench the stones in water before adhering them to the concrete as it makes them more porous , and adheres them more effectively, but maybe that was due to the types of rocks we were using. Just here trying to save people’s backs one video at a time, lololol. 🤣

When you want to move something very heavy like a rock into the wheelbarrow, tip the barrow on it's side and then roll the rock into the barrow then right the barrow. It's still hard work but much safer on your body than just taking the whole weight of the rock. You have to look after yourselves so you can continue your beautiful work.

I'm glad to hear that! When I made a similar ramp I had chunks of turf from another place and put those on top. Within a season it was smooth sailing on it and never muddy. Great job too on the rebuild! Even that dark shot in darkness shows it'll look great!❤

You could hide a secret message in the wall, in a bottle or something like that! There’s a tradition in Germany where you hide a capsule in the foundations of a new building with a newspaper, some coins or other personal trinkets. Maybe there is something similar in other countries? You are putting in so much work to give it new life! Hope you’re back and cold are better!

I remember my Dad doing the same thing on a stone chimney that stuck out into my bedroom. He decided it would make me more space if he removed it. As the job went on he got further and further into the wall, until eventually he was taking down the barn that was built onto our house. An enjoyable video guys that provoked my memories. Andrius and 'G' of "Portugal It Is" have been lifting huge stone boulders to build the walls up for a kitchen extension. They are a great team. 'G' has the best greenhouse of seedlings. She sure knows how to garden without all the fuss and bother. They make do with what they have and are great at recycling, too! I bet you both would get a lot of handy building and gardening skills from them.

I have enjoyed David Mitchell reading his own book "Unruly" - described as 'horrible histories for grown-ups' it is factual, funny, irreverent and, despite having a chapter for each 'monarch' from King Arthur to Elizabeth I (39 of them!!) it does not spoil it if you want to skip a few hundred years and go back later. Everything that you cut, prune, weed, don’t need - that is plant based, chop, mulch and compost. Add local manure and keep moist (not wet). Plenty of mulching once beds are planted. Tickety-boo👍

Its a brave brave person who intends to knock a hole in a wall that's standing firm. If you end up with lots of zucchini, consider grinding them up and putting 1 cup per a zip lock bag and freeze them. When you feel the urge, make zucchini bread. It's a lovely way to use up extra zucchini at the end of summer, and the bread is wonderful (Think sweet bread - great with a cup of tea!) See you next week! Blessed Be!

Dont ever try and lift a rock like that, lay the wheelbarrow on its side with the edge tucked under the rock. Roll the rock into the barrow. Then roll the barrow back to up-right. No lifting.

Congratulations! It took us 30 years and me putting my foot down to FINALLY get a second wheelbarrow!! But I warn you, it didn't take him long to start using my cool new wheelbarrow for his buckets of mortar. I recommend leaving it always full of something or other so it looks like more work than it's worth not to use the old one. 🤣🤣

Next time you mix the soil transfer some to a container and rehydrate it that way. Don’t get it too wet..it is just right when you squeeze some soil in your hand and it holds together lightly. Then put the soil in your trays. That way it is not too dry as you are planting. The purpose for dampening the soil first is so when you water it the water is taken up better in the soil and stays hydrated better between watering so the seeds can germinate. Have fun with your garden!

You’ll not get the seed starting mix moist enough by spraying! Put some in a bucket and pour at least two of those water bottles you were using in. Mix it with your hands & you’ll probably still need more water. You want a handful to hold together when squeezed without dripping water. Best of luck 💚

Hi both, great decision to replace the stones, it’s looking much more in keeping with the rest of the masonry. Ricky asked about tips on pointing, a handy tool I’ve seen advertised for pointing patios & walls, it’s like a sealant cawking gun that you fill with mortar, and squeeze into the cracks to be pointed. They are advertised on Amazon etc. That would speed up the pointing, however the only downside I could foresee is that with the size of your gaps, you may be emptying the tube fairly quickly, and it may be a bit fiddly to be filling up. One advantage is you wouldn’t get mortar on your stonework. Only a thought. Paul, Swansea 👍👍

I always use seeds from my grocery store tomatoes. Just grab a few seeds, (don’t worry about the pulp) and put them on a tissue to dry out. Then in a few days or as long as you want you can just plant them in your seed raising mix. Very easy. Just keep the water up to them, if they dry out, just water then they should pick up again. Btw, zucchini’s, watermelon, pumpkin etc needs lots of space. Happy planting! 😊

What that makes me think of, as a farmer, is a hog house. They usually have windows over openings for the pigs to come and go thru. And there is usually a small sliding or lifting door for when you need to lock them in the building. And one on each side would make sense because you want to keep the farrowing sows separate.

Another tip about working with stones: put a shovel head underneath, then put a second shovel under the first. Angle the wheelbarrow’s front side towards the rock, and manipulate your shovel/levers to roll the boulder onto the wheelbarrow. I use rocks in my hobby of landscape gardening, and I don’t have a helper. The biggest boulders I’ve used weighed about 325 and 425 lb, respectively. Your boulder I reckon is at least 500, pushing 600 lb. How even two people shifted it shows how strong you both are! 🥰

I watched you replacing the rocks under the window. Though I have never laid stones, I have watched others wet them before adding to the wall. Some just wet the stone with a sprayer, and others fill a bucket with water and soak them. You are doing a great job. Love the way you two work together ❤️ 💕 💓

Think you might have a glut of courgette if they all germinate😂. We planted 3 plants for the two of us and we couldn't eat them all and as everyone else had a glut we couldn't give them away. My Suggestion for tomatoes, 1. Buffalo is a giant size, good for Burgers, 2. malzano bottle tomatoes, very tasty and 3. Cherry tomatoes for a quick snack, as a bushy one very easy to grow, does Not need much preparations. 👍🏼

Take all of the stones from underneath the window and fill in Victoria's ramp then cover that with gravel and dirt. Or use the crushed stone and cement for fill in your driveway.
