You won't believe how amazing Tasmania is! Australia has been hiding this gem from us for too long, so we're in Hobart to start a road trip around the state... Check out these crazy cheap flights to Tasmania: geni.us/VADDbhB ⬇ See below for more details and recommendations ⬇
Welcome to Hobart for the start of our Tasmania road trip! We're spending the next week road tripping around Tassie, over to Bruny Island, up the East Coast, then inland to Cradle Mountain.
We've heard stories about Tasmania for years now, after a while you start to wonder how true the yarns are and end up with more questions than answers:
- Is an island off an island really necessary?
- Surely it doesn’t actually snow in Tasmania?
- Can the food and drink genuinely compete with New Zealand?
- Is road tripping the best option?
- Wait, there's white sand beaches?
On this trip we'll figure that all out, kick starting things off in this vlog with some of the top things to do in Hobart: Salamanca markets, Mount Wellington and Cascade Brewery.
The Salamanca markets have been a Saturday tradition for over 50 years, so make sure you tee it up to align with your own trip! They draw locals and tourists from all over to check out the local produce, crafts, and live music.
Kunanyi Mount Wellington is an iconic peak overlooking Hobart. Snow in winter, hikes, bike trails and wildlife - all that within a quick 30 minute drive up the hill!
After a lot of research, this is the hotel we stayed at in Hobart - low price, great location, good reviews: geni.us/XCPMxk
Also, take a look at how cheap the fares are to Tasmania here: geni.us/VADDbhB
This trip around Tasmania is from a week long road trip from August 2023. Tasmania is a seriously epic part of Australia and is perfect for a good road tip - from the food, the people, the nature, the wild life, the wine - it's got it all going on! We highly recommend you travel there ASAP, if you plan on that, please consider using some of our links and recommendations from the below to support the channel:

It's like a place where the landscapes are so breathtaking, you'll start wondering if the air is thinner because you can't catch your breath and even the wallabies hop to a rhythm that sounds suspiciously like 'Waltzing Matilda'! Kidding aside, this makes me crave for an Australian adventure and I hope that my dart would let me experience this!

Best city to live in Australia. Great scenery, doesn’t rain much, food and craft beer scene, along with elite wine and whiskey. Awesome for outdoors people with lots of hiking, running and cycling routes. Homely feel, less stress, easy going and quiet. Moved here during the pandemic from Victoria, best decision ever made.

Aww i love tassie that my first home here in Australia! I also have the same reaction like stacy when she saw snow. Lol my first snow experience is lock up in the hotel room in launceston doing hotel quarantine. Love the first video on your tassie adventure but i got a hint your going to brunny island too! I can’t wait to see that one. I also made a small video of our travels in tassie. Can you guys come to Western Australia next. We’re currently living in Perth so much to see here. I’m going to go visit rottnest island tomorrow so excited for that 😊

Harriet and I have a cousin who lives in Hobart. Hobart has that hometown charm where everybody knows your name. We have been there a few times. It's has it's foodie and brewery scene. Hope you enjoyed your time there. Sending much love❤ from Richmond, Virginia Harriet, Jim and Yuki P.S. Harriet and I have a bet that if I buy tickets this fall for Flyer games you would not come. Who wins that bet ? Hmmm.

I’ve just discovered your channel- you guys are fantastic! As a former Tasmanian, I have to say: well done on hitting the market that early in the day! As the day goes on, it becomes more & more busy & crowded & not to mention, impossible to find parking anywhere nearby! I definitely had flashbacks to childhood trips up the mountain with the biting cold & the snow - although back then it didn’t have anywhere to escape the weather & of course if it was a good winter, you could get to decent snow without going up to the top so that you didn’t freeze your butt off! I can’t believe people didn’t warn you about needing to wear gloves though!! 😂😂😂 - as far as views, whilst the mountain is by far the best, in winter, your best option is probably going to be up the top of mount nelson unless it’s a clear day!

From a Tassie local, Mt. Wellington was always known as Mt. Wellington. Kunanyi label was recently added to signage within the last 10-15 years and I wouldn't of known the mountain's indigenous name until its more recent references.
@SanctusPaulus1962
@SanctusPaulus1962 9 ай бұрын
Can confirm. I've lived here all my life and have never heard a single person refer to Mount Wellington by its aboriginal name, except if they were intentionally going out of their way to be politically correct. Most of us just refer to it as "the mountain" anyway

Australians definitely pronounce scallop as if it was spelled scollop. The more naively phonetic pronunciation is more typically American. The more interesting controversy among Australians is whether a deep fried slice of potato that is a similar shape to a scallop shell, and is nothing like a cake, is correctly called a scallop or weirdly called a potato cake.
