Hello everyone! Well the ice storm is slowly going away. It has been a rough week of relaxing and not much work lol. Roxane explains future plans she is looking forward to. We need some help finding a way to fix some bowed boards. Thank you for being here, we appreciate you all. Enjoy

Have you decided where you are going to build your storm shelter? This is a definite must have ( I would think). I have family who live in the Ft Smith Area and they have been there for 25 yrs. They have had to use their storm shelter a few times. So glad they have one.

I think the darker ceiling would work very well. Its not too dark, It does bring everything together. You are doing a great job. About bending the wood, I have seen DIYfferent they used clamps and it worked perfectly. They went down one piece, clamped and nailed, then moved down the board like that

It's a personal choice of course but dark ceilings would be too closed in for me in a small house, others find it cosy. As for looks it looks nice just depends on the feel your going for I guess 🤔. Yes wood can be fixed clamping it have seen several do it this way.

I have to say I suggested the lighter ceiling on your previous video. I mentioned it to my husband whom is a licensed painting contractor. He said stained would look better. He also suggested that if you want to stain the cabinets going with a different specie of wood would look good.

You’ve talked me into the darker stain! I did a roof with the tongue and groove just like you are doing. We had to match the boards up and minimize the gaps. I can visualize a nice wood stove in the corner to keep your home warm in the winter. If I remember correctly Anthony mentioned having one when you were laying out your home.

You showed up on my notifications and I'm glad you did! I'm uk and been watching the ice storms and their effects. My youngest hens have continued to lay over winter, some have chosen the coldest part of winter to cast their feathers and cast hard- they've had bald spots! My very unusual rooster (cheep cheep is in my videos I've just posted us having a conversation) has been unlocking his gate and coming down the house to find me a lot more often this week I need to get a camera set up Going to have a binge watch of your content :)

Rip a ceiling board so you can use either the tongue or the grove side against the board you are attaching to pound on. You might try attaching an 8 foot board ½ inch away from the bowed board then have some wedges to drive between to close that gap. You might want to space the board more to use the grove saver to wedge against. Good luck. Hope I explained good enough.

I Like the ceiling color. It flows nicely with your other woodwork. If you are up for another test run, You can lessen the pigment saturation in the stain if you add mineral spirits to it. OR, wipe the wood down with spirits right before you stain & wipe.

I was hoping you would put a little bit bigger porch on the front of the house like maybe 7 or 8' by 6' so you can have like a little bistro table and chairs for your coffee and mountain view in the mornings. Maybe off to one side of the door and use the same steps turned sideways coming up from driveway area onto the deck. That would work into the arched walkway you mentioned.

I love the idea of a big BBQ area with cover and open fireplace for family functions. You wouldn't need a separate outdoor kitchen with that and you have multiple purposes. I saw the suggestion of multiple colors/stains on the ceiling. I have seen it on walls and it is awesome you just have to be aware of where you place the boards.

Sometimes boards will need to be cut in half which will make for straighter pieces. Be sure to stagger your joints so they don’t stack up. A piece of scrap wood screwed to the truss over a curved board and a wedge can be used to straighten a board. It would probably be best to use a screw on the straightened plank to keep it in line instead of a finish nail. With a little effort it will look great. I like the dark stain idea

You have a ton of planting space between the existing raised beds. USE your garden fence. Build narrow raised beds full of vining plants, like squash & cucumbers plus tomatoes then tie they to the fence. You’d triple your growing space by just using 2 feet in front of the fence. Watch Homesteading Family-Instant garden. I used that process to build beds in the fall right on top of our lawn. I planted my garlic in one. The large one has been composting since September & will be beautiful soil by Spring. You don’t need to build a raised bed structure either.

Doug & Ashley from the channel "DIYffrent" just completed a project very similar to your ceiling. Maybe Doug has some answers to your questions. They also have some awesome ways to streamline the process. I'm a huge fan of all your channels, SLR, C'mon Homesteading and also Groovy Eggs farm. It all started with "DIYffrent", at the time it was "Out in the Country". I started watching Bobblehead Homestead when the "DIYffrent" (I'm not sure that's spelled right) Doug and Ashley and family delivered Wildberry rooster to Bobblehead Homestead, from there it all snowballed. Anyway, what I'm trying to say, is that Jeff from Groovy Eggs probably knows how to get in touch with Doug & Ashley. Your home looks absolutely awesome! I like the dark stain on the ceiling.

Another way to force the wood together is to use a bar clamp and wood stop block. Turn the hand squeeze part of the clamp around to where it pushes apart against the board and stop block which is nailed or screwed to the rafter.

The dark ceiling is awesome. Maybe put a satin sealer on it, but i would do a white or whitewash cabinets. No dark kitchen with all the other dark. Use you app you built the kitchen with and play with color. Also, I would do crown molding on an angle in the living room/kitchen. Just a nice vibe. The bowed boards, maybe steam and c-clamps!!

Just happened to be watching another channel putting up wood slats on their walls (ceiling too). They used clamps flipping them around by to push. Then nailed in a scrap board to push against. Here is their video. You are doing a wonderful job on your place. Regarding your ceiling stain if you want it to be the focal point of the room then stain it dark. The room should have a balance of dark, medium and light shades for it to feel balanced. Another suggestion is to find a stain that stains the darker colors in the wood to match your dark stain. Then those darker parts of the ceiling will talk to the trim color. Also consider your kitchen cabinets when the dark, medium, light shades of the entire room. Good luck with your decision. Also you might consider staining the doors the darker color to bring in more of the dark stain you like.😊 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaXMpYSeoN5me7M

I’m still voting for the dark stained ceiling, and painting some or all of your cabinets the color of the accent wall. You could stain the bottom cabinets the dark color, then paint the top cabinets the accent color green with knobs or handles that are stained dark. Nice contrast, and breaks up the dark. Or, do all the cabinets green with dark stained handles or knobs. I love what you have done so far, and if I recall correctly, you were talking about butcher block countertops. If I’m correct on that, why not stain the countertop dark with green cabinets, and dark knobs/handles? Just my pea brain seeing what I think would really compliment what you’ve done already. Keep up the good work! I really love watching the 41.36 working to achieve their dreams!!!♥️🇺🇸👍

A while back I did my main bathroom in brown and sage green, similar to the green you have on the accent wall. Personally, I love the colours together and would not change a thing! I believe that your living room area will look great if you do the ceiling in the medium dark brown stain. But as for the kitchen cabinets, (when you reach that point) I'd go with the same 'colour family' as the accent wall, but use a LIGHTER green paint or stain on them. It will add continuity to the entire area and will look awesome!

I love all your future plans. Y'all have done an amazing job on your homestead. I'm loving your colors in your house also. As for your chicks. Chickens with dry feet lay much better. Definitely I would put straw, hay or wood mulch in the chicken pen. Also it will encourage them as they will have more bugs to scratch for. As they scratch it will compost down and that can be scooped up for your garden. Just a thought 🤷🏼‍♀️

I would put the greenhouse closer to the water source. If you are leaning towards the dark, don't worry about what others think, do what makes you happy. For the camping area, you might want to consider using that space for large animals. Keeping them far from the houses will reduce the smell.

Anthony, Here's what you do to tighten those bowed ceiling boards. Cut a 2 ft length of 2x6 diagonally in half making 2 wedges.. Line up both wedges as you just cut them, adjacent to the highest point of the bow you want to straighten. Screw the outter wedge to your rafters. Then hammer on the fat end of the loose inner wedge. You'll see the gap close up.

Anthony and Roxanne, I was wondering if you considered planting about an acre of feeder corn for the chickens? You can grind the corn course to use as feed for them. Good luck and enjoy your channels. One more thing, Locate some horse manure for a base to generate some good compost for the garden. I helped my father some 50 years ago gather horse manure. His gardens alway produced amazingly. His smile and pride from his garden, work and my back on the tiller every spring are memories I will always cherish. We dug a 4' x 4' x 4' hole and started the compost bin, using a 3/4"plywood cover painted black to cook all the scraps and manure. Created some very rich soil after the 1st year. Good luck The wood for the ceiling. the only thing I can think of is make an A frame that is just an inch lower then the ceiling at it low point near the wall. make it wide enough to be able to connect 2" ratcheting straps to it, maybe 3 at a time. Put the laps together the attach the ratchet straps to the board after you put a couple of nails in it and ratchet till tight. Move the A frame accordingly. Might work, I don't think you'll need much force from the pull to tighten the tongue and groove. Just a thought.

Screw a block in to a rafter (temporary) use flat bar to move ceiling board. Start from one side and workout way across. (Pro tip) use a piece of vlap (ceiling board) scrap to avoid the flat bar messing up your ceiling boards. Board for leverage on one side of the flat bar. Scrap peice of lumber on other side to protect. Ceiling color suggestion: really think it should make you happy. Enjoying your journey. Thanks for bringing us along. :)

Where the board is bowed screw a lag screw next to the bow on the side of the rafter. Screw it at least half way into the rafter. Then use a flat pry bar against the screw and wood and force it into the groove. You might have to drill a pilot hole before screwing the screw in. A good impact drill with a socket will be helpful also or just use a ratchet wrench.

Not sure if anyone ever gave you an explanation for the Tractor Supply feed and I'm not reading thru 700 comments, lol. What I've read is that the manufacturer Producer's Pride (sold exclusively by TSC) removed essential amino acids needed for egg production from the feed to save money. Also, I've found out TSC sponsored a drag queen event. [December 14, 2022 - PORTSMOUTH, OH - Social media is buzzing with talk about a recent Drag Queen Pride event in Waco, Texas. The event was not located at a Tractor Supply (TS) store, but TS helped to organize the Pride event which was held at Brazos Park East] Because of their involvement in men dressing as women and twerking in front of children, they no longer have my business.

I know someone who will know and I ask him to watch this part and that is Doug on DIYfferent Out in the country. Jeff (Bobblehead Enterprises) knows him. I guarantee you Doug will know.

I’d take 2x4 and screw in the ceiling and a squeeze clamp with end turned around so that as u squeeze the clamp it applies pressure against the board outdoors with Morgan’s had recent video he put out using the same technique on tongue and groove for his walls. A lot people don’t know that squeeze clamp can be used to spread apart

Anthony, check out one of my favorite channels, DIYfferent, Doug and Ashley installed 4000 Ft of tongue and groove ceiling and walls in their bedroom and bathroom. They used a clamp and piece of wood to get the seams together.

Have you seen MT Homestead's video about the chicken feed? There sure is a lot of talk about it. Makes you wonder? Did you talk to Jeff? I don't think I'd like a white wash. I like Kathleen McLean's idea, multi color stains. almost have a reclaimed look maybe. Hope ya dry out soon. Hope ya have an awesome weekend!

I was also thinking the dark stain on the ceiling boards would be to dark, but honestly I love the stain! As you do more boards you'll get more of those lite to dark variations making it match everything well. Go with what you like but that's my opinion.

👍👍👍 Im not buying into the bad TS feed. Just cant see them or Purina where the feed is produced&packaged setting themselves up to lose after all these yrs... Needless to say, there are better options, local feed mills but not always so local anymore 👍👍👍

I like the dark stain. It's a good contrast with the window trim.

I think the dark stain with the green wall (which i love that color green)and the stone gives that end a warm look and i think it will give your whole house a warm look. You love it so you should do it. Any of us watching does not have to like it, although i do. You do and you seem to have great taste.I love the color of your outside paint. Looking forward to your gatdens. Especially the flowers.

Not sure if this will apply to the situation, but I know that when they install wood, or a wood type flooring product, that they tell you to bring it in the house to acclimate, before installation.... just a thought. Again, ceiling...dark.
