This small town is like no other, boasting three distinct geophysical features.
Lovely little Superior’s got plenty to offer its visitors, from stunning scenery to fantastic trails to a bit of Arizona history.
Tucked up against the base of the Apache Leap Mountains and surrounded by Tonto National Forest, Superior is situated along the “division line” of three geophysical features - the Arizona-Sonoran desert, the valley and plateaus of Central Arizona, and majestic mountain ranges that boast waterfalls and winter snow.
Explore the 98-mile Apache Trail on State Route 88 and admire the saguaro cacti, mountain and desert views, and four lakes created by dams along the Salt River. This area will give you a deeper appreciation for Arizona’s diversity.
You’ll also want to check out the red-streaked cliffs of the Apache Leap Mountains. Why the name? Legend has it that Apaches jumped from these cliffs rather than surrender to U.S. troops.
Nearby, learn about the Magma Copper Company Mine - the state’s largest underground mine - or pay a visit to Oak Flats campground or Boyce Thompson Arboretum, displaying more than 10,000 desert plants in its beautiful grounds.
In town, stroll the town three historic districts, or tour the home of Bob Jones, Arizona's 6th governor, operated by the Superior Historical Society as a museum.Life is short and time is limited . So let's get out in it and enjoy great adventures with Black flag expeditions . Follow us as we journey into this great land known as the southwest, exploring the past, present and the future . We travel day and night seeking exciting and sometimes hazardous adventures into unknown territories seeking knowledge, truth and history . Our voyages lead us into daring and often dangerous situations , but this only adds to the reason we do it . Pure love of adventure , exploration and pushing ourselves to the limit.. COME EXPLORE WITH US . #comeexplorewithus #blackflagexpeditions #adventureawaits

If that was a Fort, look for the trash pile! Back then it would be tin cans, jars and wooden boxes with nails, the nails at least.

Fascingating stuff but I literally got motion sickness from you camera. Please pan slower. I would also suggest backing up to show your finds as to aleviaate the steep downward angle. Again, great stuff and look forward to seeing more.

All my years growing up in Superior I never heard of "Fort Superior". General Picket had a small outpost at the foot of Picket Post Mountain to lookout for hostile indians, but that's about it. When Superior was named as a town all forts and Cavalry was gone by then.

Those lower walls were built as firing positions located along the “military crest” of the slope to defend the fort.

not much of a fort or position to defend one's self from. No water. Wouldn't take long for the Apache's to starve them out of supplies.

Those rock walls could be built by the Chinese thousands of years ago. The Chinese built walls like that before the Great Wall was built and they built rock walls like in the San Francisco Bay area mountains as well as the foothills east of Oakdale ca.

Seriously? Thousands of years ago? The Chinese were first brought here as immigrants around 1847.
